Should I Draft Hollywood Brown? Fantasy Outlook for the Chiefs’ WR in 2024

Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown's fantasy outlook in 2024 is questionable, as he suffered a serious injury in Week 1 of the NFL preseason.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown suffered a pretty serious injury during the preseason, which will impact his fantasy football outlook in 2024.

On a positive note, you can use his name for some top-tier fantasy team names, considering he has a nickname like “Hollywood.”

With this injury in mind, I’ll examine his fantasy football outlook for this season and examine if he’s still a good pick.

Hollywood Brown’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

Drafting injured players can be a beneficial fantasy football strategy, depending on how you draft before taking that player.

Right now, Brown is going as the WR38, and that could drop even further should information come out that he’ll miss extended time.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, his Week 1 status is uncertain after dislocating his sternoclavicular shoulder joint. Thankfully, it didn’t require surgery.

Further, Dr. Jesse Morse of TheInjuryExperts estimated he could miss 4-6 weeks and mentioned this type of injury can sometimes be life-threatening.

Brown came over to the Chiefs on a one-year deal. With the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, he saw 101 targets, caught 51 passes, and went for 574 yards and four touchdowns. That’s a severely low number of yards, considering the targets. To be fair, he was without quarterback Kyler Murray for a good portion of the season.

According to TruMedia, he had 16 catches on first down, 17 on second down, and 17 on third down, so he was used consistently across all three downs, but he wasn’t overly productive.

Of his 101 targets, Brown was targeted 20+ yards downfield 22.3% of the time. He averaged 29.2 yards per catch. He was still used close to the line of scrimmage, too, with 45.7% of his targets coming 0-9 yards downfield.

He’ll be a great asset for the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, along with fellow wide receiver Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, tight end Travis Kelce, and running back Isiah Pacheco.

This year, the Chiefs have an early bye week, coming in at Week 6.

Is Brown a Good Fantasy Pick?

It’s a bit too early to tell. We’ll have to see if Brown gets placed on short-term injured reserve or what the plan is.

He and Worthy are somewhat similar, but both can be effective with the ball in their hands. They’ll certainly help Mahomes utilize the deep pass even more.

As for competition, Worthy will be a top target as a rookie, Kelce will still get plenty of action, and the wild card is Rice. He had some legal troubles this offseason, so it remains to be seen if he’ll miss time.

Any prominent receiver in the Chiefs offense has value, but as WR38 and No. 88 overall, it’s tough to think about taking him right now, given the unknown regarding this injury.
Generally speaking, Brown will have value, but we need more information.
