Winning a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal. The one thing every team in the NFL is chasing year in and year out. There can be only one winner, and while some franchises have a long rich history of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, some do not.
Such is the case with the Buffalo Bills — a proud franchise with a rich history littered with Hall of Fame players, legendary moments, and a huge impact on the NFL and its long tenure in American sports. However, all that is second to winning a Super Bowl title. If you do not have one of those on your résumé, it makes historical conversations tough.
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!
How Many Super Bowls Do the Bills Have?
Currently (and sadly for Bills Mafia), the Bills currently do not have a Super Bowl title in their franchise history. It’s been nearly 30 years since the Bills last played in the Super Bowl. Despite appearances, they had never finished the job by winning one.
The early 1990s felt like it was destined to happen for the Bills. Despite making it to four Super Bowls during that time (and consecutive appearances at that), the Bills never won one. A truly remarkable feat of consistency if you think about it. To make it that many times and never get over the hump has to be one of the more perplexing feats in all of professional sports.

A franchise that never saw a Super Bowl appearance prior to 1991 had gone to four straight from 1991-1994 and has not gone back since. It’s a Herculean effort to win the Super Bowl, and it’s equally as precarious to get back to the game. For the Bills to do so four times and continuously lose is more “impressive” than not ever making it back since.
How Many NFL Teams Have Never Won a Super Bowl?
When it comes to having no hardware to speak of in the NFL, the Bills are certainly not alone. Including the Bills, there are 12 total teams that have never won a Super Bowl in their franchise history: Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans.
While some of those teams like the Panthers, Texans, and Jaguars are considered on the newer side as far as franchise history goes, quite a few teams on that list have been around for more than half a century, such as the Cardinals, Bengals, Browns, and Lions, and still have never lifted the Lombardi Trophy*.
It is not easy to win a title in the NFL, and the fact that over a third of the league has never actually done so is further evidence.
*Only includes titles from the post-merger era.
