Taylor Swift is one of the biggest musicians in the world today, and the Super Bowl halftime show has seen plenty of legendary musicians take the stage, including Prince, Beyoncé, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, and many more.
Last year, rumors swirled that Swift could be the NFL’s halftime performer at Super Bowl 57, but she allegedly denied the offer. Why has she avoided performing at the Super Bowl halftime show?
Why Hasn’t Taylor Swift Performed at the Super Bowl?
This year, Swift has become a big part of the conversation surrounding the Super Bowl — not because she will perform during the halftime show, but because her boyfriend Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end, will play in the game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Departing Tokyo the same evening as one of her “Eras Tour” shows, Swift is expected to be at the Super Bowl to support Kelce.
Usher will take the stage at halftime, and surely many will ask the question: Why hasn’t Swift ever performed at the Super Bowl?
For years, Swift has allegedly declined the slot due to having inked a “long-term partnership” with Coca-Cola, the rival brand to the Super Bowl Halftime sponsor, Pepsi. When Apple Music took over as the official sponsor in 2022, there were rumors that she was offered the gig. TMZ confirmed that she was offered but declined it because she was working on her album re-records at the time.
Swift’s packed schedule could be another reason she declined to perform at the halftime show.
She released her October 2022 album, Midnights, which recently won two Grammy awards, including a historic fourth Album of the Year award for Swift, and is re-recording her first six albums — four of which have been released: Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

She still has Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) to release. She also just announced that she will release a brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19.
In March 2023, the singer embarked on the wildly successful Eras Tour, which concluded its first leg in November 2023, and the tour recently picked back up for four days in Tokyo. The concerts are currently scheduled up to December 2024, with the U.K. leg of the tour set to arrive in June.
According to a source in The Daily Mail, performing at the Super Bowl is something Swift would consider doing in the future at the right time. The source added that she is “leaning toward doing it in a few years, especially if the Super Bowl is in Nashville, Tenn.” With the locations until 2027 confirmed, none of these include Tennessee.
It appears that, for now, working on her current tour, recording her old music, and working on new music are taking up the majority of Swift’s time. While a Super Bowl performance may be in the cards for her in the future, it would likely be several more years until that happens.
