The Dallas Cowboys owner recently talked about the reasons behind not signing Derick Henry. However, those reasons are not enough for Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe.
The three-time Super Bowl winner not only questioned Jones’ football acumen but questioned the motives behind justifying this call as well.
Jerry Jones Under Fire From Shannon Sharpe for Not Signing Derrick Henry
On Tuesday, Jones made his much-awaited appearance on 105.3 The Fan after last week’s blowup. During the show, Jones delved deep into the reasons for not signing the former Tennessee Titans running back.
“I don’t know if he’d be having a career year in our situation. … We don’t run that type of offense at all. … Derrick Henry didn’t fit (because of) managing the (salary) cap,” said Jones.
However, the former Denver Broncos tight end Sharpe took up Jones’ case on ESPN’s First Take. “To say what [Jerry Jones] said about Derrick Henry literally makes him look like he doesn’t know football,” said Sharpe.

Henry was one of the most highly rated free agents during the offseason, but the Cowboys did not sign him. They instead extended Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
However, they also signed QB Cooper Rush for a cap hit of $5.31 million.
Derrick Henry Expressed His Surprise Not Being Considered by Jerry Jones’ Cowboys
During the offseason, the four-time Pro Bowler was linked to the Cowboys on several occasions. America’s Team was in dire need to fill the gap left by RB Tony Pollard. A week ago, Henry appeared on the Dan Patrick Show and expressed his disbelief.
“I live in Dallas and that’s basically home and that made the most sense if the Ravens weren’t interested because that’s right there, but clearly they weren’t interested and the Ravens were, so it worked out the way it needed to,” said Henry.
The Cowboys eventually brought back veteran RB Ezekiel Elliott as Henry joined the Baltimore Ravens.
The Cowboys are at the bottom of the pile in rushing yards with only 463 yards to their name with an average of 77.1 yards per game. The Ravens have the most rushing yards in the league this season — 1,476 rushing yards with an average of 210.8 yards per game.
