Gus Edwards Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Ravens RB This Week?

Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins may have suffered a torn Achilles in their Week 1 contest, but does that put Gus Edwards in play as a priority add.

Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending injury after he tore his Achilles in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, but how valuable does this make Ravens RB Gus Edwards to your fantasy football team for the 2023 season? Let’s take a closer look.

Should Gus Edwards Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 2?

Dobbins suffered a significant lower-body injury during their season opener against the Texans on Sunday as he was attempting to cross into the end zone for the second time but was stopped just shy.

Dobbins rushed for 22 yards and a touchdown prior to sustaining the injury, and after Dobbins exited the game with an injury, Edwards finished with 32 rushing yards on eight carries.

Now that Dobbins is out for the entirety of the 2023 NFL season with his torn Achilles, Edwards should be in line to split work in this backfield with Justice Hill. Edwards and Hill both saw eight carries in this matchup, but Hill was able to find the end zone twice.

If you’re looking for an RB on the waiver wire to pick up in place of Dobbins this year, Edwards may not be the top answer due to how cloudy this backfield will be. Not only will Hill see carries, but the Ravens also have Melvin Gordon III ready to elevate to the starting roster.

Edwards should be a pickup in deeper leagues for valuable depth as you make a push to the fantasy championship. However, other players like Kenneth Gainwell or Kyren Williams may be smarter additions based on the clarity that they have in their respective backfields.

Unfortunately, if you need a direct replacement for Dobbins, that player simply is not available on the waiver wire. Dobbins is an incredibly talented player who had the potential to be a top-10 option at the RB position this year if this offense reached its potential.

Edwards is merely a bench stash at this point due to the fact that he’s in an offense that has historically looked to utilize multiple different RBs.
