Grayson McCall Injury: Updates on Coastal Carolina QB’s Status

Grayson McCall suffered a frightening injury in Coastal Carolina’s Week 8 contest against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.

In the fourth quarter, with the Chanticleers leading Arkansas State 20-10, McCall took a carry over the middle of the field. He attempted to slide at the end of the play, but took a hard hit to the head in the process of sliding.

After the play, McCall was motionless on the field and was quickly attended to by medical personnel. Around 10 minutes later, an ambulance arrived and took McCall away.

He’ll presumably be transported to a hospital for evaluation and professional care. The fear is that McCall suffered a notable head or neck injury.

Grayson McCall’s 2023 season hasn’t been quite as efficient as the rest of his career, but McCall is a legend in the annals of Coastal Carolina’s football program history, and he’s one of the most prolific passers to don the school’s uniform.

Heading into the Arkansas State game, McCall had thrown for 9,761 career passing yards and 86 touchdowns, with just 14 interceptions. Across his span as a starter, he’s also ran for over 1,000 yards and 18 additional scores.

Shortly before his injury, McCall had become the 146th player in FBS history to pass for over 10,000 yards in his career.

On the 2024 NFL Draft circuit, McCall carries some appeal as a potential PFA prospect. His mobility and competitive toughness serve as ideal traits in a backup, and he’s also proven that his accuracy is a strength as well.

In the meantime, the hope is that McCall’s injury isn’t as serious as it first appeared. Stay with us, as we’ll update this article with pertinent information.
