“Gotta Play Better. Gotta Coach Better”: Brian Daboll Reacts After Daniel Jones and Giants Fall to Seahawks

    Published on

Is it time to panic for the 1-3 New York Giants? Brian Daboll gave some short but strong takes for the current state of the franchise.

Four games into the 2023 season and tensions have risen around the New York Giants following their 24-3 debacle against the Seattle Seahawks on Week 4 of Monday Night Football.

It was more than just a brutal night that saw an uncanny 11 sacks and three takeaways delivered by the ‘Hawks. Giants head coach Brian Daboll had to address the current climate in the locker room for his now 1-3 team, including addressing some on-field tensions with his quarterback and the mental state of his team.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Brian Daboll Repeatedly Says Team and Him Must ‘Do Better’

Daboll gave succinct answers, but the kind that points to him hoping there’s a desire to get better starting with him.

“We have to do a better job and it starts with me,” Daboll said to the New York media following the 21-point loss.

He’s aware that the fans of “Big Blue” were discontent throughout the night. And some were so frustrated that cameras captured moments where fans got up and left. Daboll, though, shared their frustrations.

“I’d be upset too if I were the fans,” Daboll said.

Daboll Addresses Exchange Between He and Daniel Jones

A major topic on the mind of the reporters inside the press room was this scene involving Daboll and his franchise quarterback Daniel Jones, which came after the Devon Witherspoon 97-yard pick-six.

That was followed by this next scene involving a sitting Jones and Daboll trying to figure out what went wrong on that red-zone attempt.

Daboll, as anticipated, was asked to clear the air about what were the words between he and the Giants’ passer. Daboll, however, denied that there was anything heated between the two.

“I was trying to show and see what he thought,” Daboll said. “And I told him what I saw. I’m not going to get into any particulars of it. Just didn’t get the job done.”

Along with the pick-six, Jones got sacked 10 times. He ended his night going 27-of-34 for 203 yards and was intercepted twice, with the other pick snatched by Quandre Diggs.

Is the Sky Falling on the Giants’ Season?

Last season’s Giants, the first under Daboll, witnessed the team leap to a 6-1 start before settling on a 9-7-1 mark.

However, since their October 30 defeat at the hands of the Seahawks, the Giants have stumbled to a 5-10-1 mark. That includes their NFC Divisional Round playoff debacle against the Philadelphia Eagles and their current slide to start the year.

Is it panic time in the Big Apple?

“It’s the first quarter of the season, but certainly we have a lot of things we need to do better at,” Daboll said. “We’ve got to do a better job.”

Daboll claims that he’s taken a walk inside the locker room and has confidence in his 2023 group, insisting that, “We’ve got a lot of confidence in our players.”

However, the Giants now find themselves tied for having the second-worst record in the NFC along with the team they beat this season, the Arizona Cardinals. Additionally, the Giants find themselves in sole possession of last place in the NFC East.

Daboll, again, is denying there will be significant changes. But he knows improvement starts with him in his second season of running this team.

“I’ve got to do a better job of trying to help them,” Daboll said.
