The New York Giants have the unenviable task of attempting to stop one of the hottest offenses in the NFL, the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins made national news when they scored 70 points on the forgiving Denver Broncos defense two weeks ago, but they fell back to earth last week in an AFC East tilt against the Buffalo Bills.
Last week’s result has no impact on how the Giants — namely defensive coordinator Wink Martindale — feel about facing the vaunted Dolphins offense in Week 5. Martindale had some choice words for reporters questioning how he is preparing to face Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert.
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!
What Did Wink Martindale Say About the Miami Dolphins Offense?
Martindale heaped plenty of praise on the Dolphins offense. He stated that he was blown away by the sheer speed and conveyed that to his defense.
Martindale paid the Miami offense with additional compliments, comparing them to one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history.
“My wife called me last night before she went to bed. Are you getting any sleep?” Martindale said Thursday.
#Giants DC Wink Martindale, asked about what he thinks of the #Dolphins being able to score 70 points in a game:
My wife called me the other day and asked me how I’m sleeping. I told her great: I wake up every 2 hours, cry, go the bathroom …

‘Yeah, I’m sleeping like a baby. Every two hours, I wake up and cry.”
Why Are the Dolphins So Scary?
Martindale has good reason to be concerned. The Dolphins’ offense challenges defenses unlike any in the NFL.
Hill is the most dynamic receiver in the game, capable of taking any reception to the house. Defenses must game plan to limit him before anything else.

As scary as this is, the Dolphins didn’t even have Waddle on the field when they dropped 70 points on the Broncos. Waddle has had a slow start to the 2023 season, but don’t forget how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands. He has shown the versatility to take the top off a defense and work underneath as a reception machine.

What separates Miami’s offense this season, as opposed to last season, is their scintillating running game. The tandem of Mostert and Achane has ripped defenses apart with their breakaway speed. It looks like the Dolphins are playing a video game on turbo.

The Kurt Warner-led Rams offense electrified the NFL. The combination of Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt at receiver and the versatile Marshall Faulk at RB was too much for NFL defenses to defend.
Warner’s pinpoint accuracy and quick delivery made for an ideal fit. The comparison holds water, and Martindale will have more sleepless nights until Sunday afternoon.
