New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints prediction and odds | Week 4

    Odds from DraftKings sportsbook.

    • Spread: Saints -7.5
    • Moneyline: Giants +280, Saints -365
    • Over/Under: 43 (Over -110, Under -110)

Although the Giants hold a 16-14 overall winning record over the Saints, the smart money is on New Orleans this weekend. The Saints comfortably beat the Giants when they last met (a 33-18 win in 2018). Furthermore, New Orleans has beaten New York in six of the last 10 clashes between the two teams.

While the Saints are the favorite to win the game, they should also cover the spread in Sunday’s showdown. New Orleans is 2-1 against the spread, with the Giants sitting at 1-2 ATS coming into this Week 4 matchup. Sean Payton’s team has decisive wins by 35 (Packers) and 15 points (Patriots), and the Giants gave up a 14-point deficit to the Denver Broncos in Week 1.

Although home favorites have had a rough time against the spread so far in the 2021 NFL season — a bewildering 10-19 — the Saints should buck that trend. One trend I don’t see them bucking, however, is their ability to hit the over line. They’re 0-3 so far against the over, with the Giants at 1-2. Furthermore, 17 of the 30 previous matchups between these teams finished below the 43 over/under line of this weekend’s game.

With two atrocious offenses, hammer the under for this Giants vs. Saints clash.

    Giants vs. Saints prediction

Let’s start this Giants vs. Saints prediction with a fun fact. So far this season, Giants QB Daniel Jones has as many rushing touchdowns as he does passing touchdowns. This isn’t some Army college football triple-option scheme that Jason Garrett is running in New York. It’s just a ringing indictment of how bad the Giants’ offense has been.

If they can’t put up points in the passing game, they’re going to struggle to punch it in on the ground against the NFL’s third-ranked rushing defense. The Saints have allowed just 1 touchdown and an average of 60.3 yards per game to the run this season. Additionally, they limited the New England Patriots to just 2.9 yards per carry in last week’s 28-13 win.

Nonetheless, the Saints haven’t been prolific in the passing game themselves. Ignore Jameis Winston’s 7 passing touchdowns — New Orleans is averaging just 113.7 passing yards per game. Only the Chicago Bears have fewer passing yards per game in the 2021 NFL season.

Expect the Saints to lean heavily on Alvin Kamara on Sunday. Although the Giants are allowing an average of just 107 yards per game on the ground, they’ve given up the second-most receiving yards to running backs this season so far. Kamara remains one of the best pass-catching backs in the game.

Prediction: New York Giants 13, New Orleans Saints 24
