It’s no secret the New York Giants are in the market for a new quarterback, with last year’s starter, Drew Lock, set to test free agency.
Third-stringer Tim Boyle is also an unrestricted free agent, leaving hometown hero Tommy DeVito as the only quarterback under contract heading into the 2025 season. The Giants have been rumored to be in the mix for Aaron Rodgers or could target a new signal-caller in April’s draft. New York owns the No. 3 overall pick.

Giants Predicted to Sign Russell Wilson
Rodgers isn’t the only veteran quarterback looking for a change of scenery. Russell Wilson is another free agent to watch—assuming he doesn’t re-sign with the Steelers—and the one-time Super Bowl champion has been linked to the Giants.
PFSN’s Sterling Xie presented a scenario where Wilson joins the Giants as a “reasonable short-term option” or bridge quarterback to either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. It all depends on what the two teams ahead of them—the Titans and Browns—do in the upcoming draft.
“It’s an open secret the New York Giants plan to add multiple quarterbacks through free agency and the draft this offseason,” Xie wrote. “And while recent speculation has connected the team to Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson could loom as a reasonable short-term option while the Giants make a play for Cam Ward in the draft.
Wilson was competent as the Steelers’ starter for the final 11 games of the season, though he didn’t elevate Pittsburgh’s ceiling. He finished the year with a -0.00 EPA/DB (23rd) and ranked outside the top 20 both from a clean pocket (0.23 EPA/DB) and when pressured (-0.38 EPA/DB).
Still, that’s far better than what other Giants quarterbacks have managed in recent years. Wilson finished with a 75.1 (C) grade in PFSN’s QB+ rankings in 2024, which ranked 17th. No Giants quarterback has finished with a grade that high since the metric began in 2019, with 2022 Daniel Jones (73.0, ranked 19th) coming closest.”
Russell Wilson makes perfect sense for the Giants. A legit starter + a perfect bridge.
His 2024 stats averaged for 17 games: 3,835 yards, 25-7 TD-INT — would be the Giants’ best QB season since Eli Manning.

Don’t Count Sam Darnold Out for NY Giants
Another name to watch for the New York Giants is Sam Darnold. Following a breakout 2024 campaign in Minnesota, the 27-year-old quarterback continues to explore his options in free agency.
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, there has been “at least some chatter about” the Giants making a run at Darnold.
The price tag—estimated at $25 million to $30 million per year—could be too high for New York’s budget. There is also a belief (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter) that the Vikings will try to bring him back on a one-year deal as future starter J.J. McCarthy continues to rehab from the knee injury that ended his 2024 season.
Darnold—a first-time Pro Bowler in 2024—wouldn’t be the worst option to lead the Giants. He threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns (12 interceptions) last season while leading the Vikings to a 14-3 record.
