Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll Gets Candid About His Shocking Weight Loss – ‘I Was Pretty Sore’

Brian Daboll and his wife Beth are turning heads with their physical transformation -- how did the Giants' head coach lose 50+ pounds?

People are noticing New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and his wife Beth. It started at the “New York Giants 100: A Night with Legends” event when the couple was photographed and turned heads with their new look. The conversation continued on the subject at Giants training camp, as Big Blue’s head honcho gave us a peek behind the curtain on how he shed weight.

Pilates by DTR in Wyckoff (New Jersey). That’s how!

DTR stands for Dana Tycher Reisman, the pilates studio founder, and her program is a blend of pilates instruction: “Dana’s philosophy weaves classical Pilates principles with a contemporary and modern flair, crafting a seamless harmony.”

Lactic acid making muscles feel sore notwithstanding, Daboll’s journey has catalyzed a lean figure, and meeting goals despite resistance is one of the fundamental messages bestowed in NFL locker rooms. As a coach who made the playoffs in 2022, only to put up a relative dud in 2023, the pain of losing (games) may have contributed to the joy of losing (weight).

Giants general manager Joe Schoen spoke about Daboll’s “addiction” with Kay Adams on Up and Adams: “What he fell in love with probably over the last three or four weeks is Pilates. He’s doing Pilates. The first week and a half, he was dying. He could barely move, but now, after sticking with it for a couple weeks, he’s addicted.”

Yet, Daboll has occasionally downplayed his weight loss in the past, jokingly stating, “I don’t know about that one. It’s like throwing a chair off of a yacht. That’s where I’m at.”

Daboll has been open about his fluctuating weight, saying he lost about 50 pounds shortly after he accepted the Giants’ head coaching job, but then had a hard time keeping it off during the season.

The Giants head coach, who reportedly participated in an offseason weight loss challenge among staffers, would not share exactly how much weight he has lost. However, he did say that it’s a far cry from what he was able to do when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

“I’ve got 30-40 friends. They kind of know my weight history, where it goes up and goes down,” said Daboll. “There was a season in Cleveland where I lost 112 pounds. I didn’t lose nearly that much, but last year I kind of lost a bet with one of my best friends whose got tattoos everywhere, rides motorcycles, didn’t graduate from high school.

“He’s taking a trip down to South America on a motorcycle by himself, going all the way to the end and all the way back. He had to kind of take care of things this year because that was the main goal, to beat him.

“It started with the staff and the weight loss challenge we did, but my buddy Marty. I’m glad he had to take care of the things he had to take care of and not me this year.”

The Giants will expect Daboll to navigate a loaded NFC East, get the most out of Danny Dimes (AKA Daniel Jones), and bounce back from a 6-11 season last year. Daboll has a lot on his plate in 2024, and we’ll be rooting for him to keep all the stress-induced food intake off his plate.
