Get To Know New Miami Dolphins Linebacker Jordyn Brooks

The Miami Dolphins' defense has lost enough. Chris Grier is now in player acquisition mode, adding linebacker Jordyn Brooks on a three-year contract.

The Miami Dolphins have their replacement for Jerome Baker. In fact, they have two.

Just hours after coming to terms with linebacker Anthony Walker, Chris Grier made an even bigger splash:

PFN can confirm that Grier worked out a contract with former Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks on a three-year deal ESPN first reported is worth a maximum of $30 million.

Miami Dolphins, Jordyn Brooks Agree on 3-year Deal

NFL Network later reported that the deal without incentives is for $26.3 million — $8.8 million annually.

That would make Brooks the NFL’s 11th-highest paid linebacker. It would also impact the Dolphins’ 2025 compensatory pick haul.

Since Brooks is on an expiring rookie contract, his signing counts against the Dolphins’ comp formula, However, they are on balance well ahead after watching four of their own walk out the door Monday with contracts that together total a quarter-billion dollars.

Brooks, 26, was a first-round pick out of Texas Tech by Seattle in 2020. The 6-foot, 240-pound thumper appeared in 16 games in 2023 despite tearing his ACL in the Seahawks’ penultimate game of the 2022 season.

He finished the year with 111 tackles — giving him 513 in his four years with Seattle — including eight for loss. Brooks in 2023 also set a career-high in sacks (4.5) and limited opposing quarterbacks to a passer rating of 89.3, allowing 7.5 yards per target.

Tackling was a bit of a problem, however. His 9.8% missed tackle rate was the highest of his career.

Brooks, Walker, and David Long will presumably be the Dolphins’ top three inside linebackers in Anthony Weaver’s system, and likely makes Duke Riley expendable.

Cutting Riley will clear $2.5 million in cap space — which should cover a sizable chunk of Brooks’ cap charge in 2024.
