Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett is now on his third team in as many seasons. Everett has been a popular breakout candidate in the past but never really panned out. Now the presumptive starting tight end on an explosive Chargers offense, what can fantasy football managers expect from Everett in the 2022 season, and is he a good value at his current ADP in fantasy drafts?
Gerald Everett’s fantasy outlook for 2022
Everett has had moments over the years. He scored 19.9 PPR fantasy points against the Chiefs in 2018. He had four games of at least 14 fantasy points in 2019. In 2020, he only had three double-digit efforts. And in 2021, he recorded seven games of 10+ fantasy points.
Everett’s athleticism has always been his calling card. He has upper-echelon speed, burst, and agility. At tight end, we often just like to pinpoint tremendous athletes and hope they can learn the position.
For Everett, consistency has been the biggest issue. Last year was the best season of his career, averaging 7.9 ppg. He once again finds himself in an advantageous spot for fantasy production. The question is whether he can take advantage of it this time.
How the Chargers’ depth chart impacts Gerald Everett’s fantasy projection for the season
We can confidently say Everett will be the Chargers’ starting tight end. The majority of Justin Herbert’s targets will funnel through Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler. Josh Palmer and Jalen Guyton will serve as the complementary wide receivers.
So, is there room for Everett to be a TE1? Last season, the Chargers targeted the tight end position 20.8% of the time — a very average rate. Jared Cook had a similar season to Everett, averaging 8.3 ppg. He produced six useful games all season.
That’s about what fantasy managers can expect from Everett this season. He’s worth drafting, but don’t expect him to suddenly become this reliable every-week starter at tight end.
Consider Everett a TE2 that will likely end up on waiver wires early in the season, only to resurface at various points throughout the year as a streamer.
Everett’s ADP for 2022
Everett’s ADP is around 180th overall. He’s being drafted outside the top 18 tight ends. As a result, he’s probably going undrafted in standard-sized 12-team leagues.
Everett being linked to Herbert helps. It gives him a plausible path to fantasy value. However, Everett just isn’t a tight end fantasy managers need to be targeting. There are plenty of other TEs with higher floors and higher ceilings available. As our consensus TE22, you probably won’t be selecting Everett in fantasy drafts.
