Georgia Bulldogs Preview: Roster, Prospects, Schedule, and More

    Published on

The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off consecutive national championships. Brock Bowers, Javon Bullard, and Sedrick Van Pran lead on their way to a third.

Nobody in college football has been more dominant over the past two seasons than the Georgia Bulldogs. There’s no denying that Kirby Smart has built a powerhouse program that can compete with the best the SEC has to offer, which happens to be his mentor, Nick Saban.

Now, consistency becomes key. And the 2023 Bulldogs seemed to have reloaded with future NFL Draft prospects after seeing 10 of their players (and a few former Bulldogs) drafted a season ago.

Georgia Bulldogs Roster and Depth Chart Changes

The biggest change in the roster comes at the most important position. Stetson Bennett ended up being a Day 3 pick after back-to-back national titles, and former four-star recruit Carson Beck takes over under center.

Beck is the kind of dropback passer that Smart (and Saban pre-Jalen Hurts) tended to gravitate towards. With so much talent on the roster, all Beck has to do is facilitate to the playmakers. But he could also be a sneaky NFL Draft prospect for the 2024 class.

The defensive side of the ball obviously lost quite a bit of juice through the draft. However, there are more than a few defenders that could end up being top 100 picks come April. Not only are there several juniors and seniors starting and in depth roles, but the Bulldogs also (unsurprisingly) boastest one of the best recruiting classes in the nation.

    Georgia Bulldogs NFL Draft Prospects

    Brock Bowers, TE

Tight end or wide receiver, it makes no difference what label we put on Brock Bowers. The only thing that matters at the end of the day is his talent, and that oozes off him every time he takes a snap.

And although Bowers provides enough physicality to survive playing in-line, he’s far too athletic not to be a main feature in a team’s passing attack. But this means he’ll need to find the right spot at the next level, where a coach will build a passing game around him.

    Javon Bullard, CB

The rise of zone-match defenses in the NFL has made the nickel position even more valuable over the past few seasons. Javon Bullard already exploded onto the scene in the slot a season ago, producing an impressive statistical performance on an incredible defense. He finished with seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, and three passes defensed. If he is truly 5-foot-11, there should be no concerns over Bullard’s size in the transition to the next level.

    Kamari Lassiter, CB

The former four-star recruit from Savannah started opposite of Kelee Ringo a season ago, and Kamari Lassiter was easily the more consistent coverage player of the two. The Georgia coverage scheme is complex, and having a full season of starting experience under his belt could lead to a very solid breakout as a junior.

    Sedrick Van Pran, C

Few players saw the field more than Sedrick Van Pran has over the course of Georgia’s consecutive national championships. Van Pran started at center in both seasons, and his explosiveness is in a special territory for interior linemen. The way he comes off the snap and gets to space is unbelievable, and he could have pushed the top centers in the 2023 class had he declared.

    Amarius Mims, OT

Amarius Mims is exactly what you’d expect to see from a Georgia offensive tackle. He blocks out the sun with his frame, and he’s about strong enough to move a mountain.

But despite his size, Mims also consistently displayed the kind of athleticism that had ESPN rate him a five-star recruit. If he puts together a solid campaign, Mims could be the second Georgia tackle drafted in the first round in as many years.
