Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets is coming to an end.
He played the first 18 seasons of his NFL career with the Packers and won the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XLV. The four-time MVP joined the Jets ahead of the 2023 season on a three-year, $75 million contract.
Unfortunately, Rodgers’ debut campaign was marred by a season-ending Achilles injury. He returned healthy in 2024 but failed to deliver on expectations, as the team finished with a 5-12 record. Following this disappointing performance, the Jets have decided to part ways with the quarterback after two seasons.
And recently, Rodgers elaborated on the criteria he’d have for his next team.

Aaron Rodgers Shares What He Is Looking for From His Next Team
The 41-year-old is hitting the open market for the first time in his career. Ahead of that development, Rodgers has shared his straightforward expectations for his future franchise.
TMZ recently caught up with the quarterback for a quick interview after one of his training sessions. When asked about what factors he is taking into consideration for his future, Rodgers replied that he is focusing on two main criteria:
One is that the prospective team have a well-established, competitive roster. The second is that the team that picks him actually wants him on the field. Naturally, the future Hall of Famer would like to conclude his NFL journey as a contributor and not a bench-warmer.
During the 2024 season, Rodgers tallied a total of 3,897 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns. He finished with a No. 21 ranking and C- grade (72.2) in PFSN’s QB+ metric. The Jets have not won a Super Bowl since Joe Namath’s famous upset of the Colts in 1969.
Unfortunately, Rodgers could not be the one to end the team’s Super Bowl drought.
Jets New GM Darren Mougey Speaks on the Aaron Rodgers Situation
The Jets hired Darren Mougey as their new general manager and Aaron Glenn as their new head coach last month. Both of them decided that it was in the team’s best interest to part ways with Rodgers and go with a different starting quarterback.
While addressing the media during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Mougey stated that it was time for the Jets to focus on the future. And unfortunately, they do not see Rodgers contributing to that future.
“A lot of respect for Aaron Rodgers as a player and a person, first-ballot Hall of Famer, wish him nothing but the best. But that was a decision we made and look forward to kind of moving past that and into this next process here with free agency and the draft.”
The Jets have the No. 7 overall pick in this year’s draft. They could utilize this selection to acquire a potential future franchise signal-caller or explore free agency to address their QB depth chart.
