The Dallas Cowboys fell flat in 2024, finishing a disappointing 7-10 after losing star quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 9. The offseason hasn’t been much better with the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles playing in the NFC Championship Game, and Philadelphia winning Super Bowl 59.
Since Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989, the Cowboys have been Super Bowl or bust, but that seems to have changed in recent years. Super Bowl champion Greg Jennings went on “First Things First” and said Dallas is now “Divisional Round or bust.”

Greg Jennings Has New Motto for Dallas Cowboys
Shortly after buying the team, Jones fired legendary head coach Tom Landry and hired Jimmy Johnson. The team won three Super Bowls in the next seven years and was the center of the football world. However, since 1995, the Cowboys have won the NFC East nine times but haven’t made it beyond the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Jones loves for the spotlight to be on his team, but the headlines this offseason haven’t been kind to the Cowboys. Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman made waves with his displeasure at the team’s 30 years of futility.
The team’s all-time rushing leader, Emmitt Smith, said they shouldn’t pick Ashton Jeanty in this year’s draft because they didn’t have the right mindset to run the ball last year. He could be on to something as new head coach Brian Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator the last two seasons.
There have even been questions about how coveted the Cowboys’ head coaching job is as Deion Sanders turned the job down earlier this offseason.
Their current players aren’t safe from bad headlines either so far in 2025. NFL legend Lawrence Taylor called out Micah Parsons for not being focused enough on football, and CeeDee Lamb said the Eagles have a more passionate fan base.
All this has led Jennings to create a new acronym for the Cowboys on a recent “First Things First” appearance.
“They’re not S.B.O.B., they’re D.R.O.B. That’s Divisional Round or bust. That’s their cap. They can’t get over that hump."

Chris Broussard asked, “You looking at them as a 12-win team?”
Jennings responded, “No. They’ve established who they are. They’re not S.B.O.B., they’re D.R.O.B. That’s Divisional Round or Bust. That’s their cap. They can’t get over that hump. They are not S.B.O.B.”
It’s a far fall for a once-proud franchise but Nick Wright agrees with Jennings saying, “I think that this year, and this was one of my issues with how they handled the coaching search…now the expectations are, ‘if we make the playoffs we took a step in the right direction.'”
Prescott will be ready for the regular season, but the team needs more help to jump both Washington and Philadelphia and win the NFC.
