Former Super Bowl Champion Mocks Seahawks for Ridiculous Asking Price for DK Metcalf After Star WR Demands Trade

Booger McFarland of ESPN mocked the Seattle Seahawks for their ridiculous asking price after WR DK Metcalf requested a trade.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has requested a trade from the Seahawks, which was somewhat expected heading into the offseason.

What was not so expected, though, was what the Seahawks are reportedly asking for in a trade for Metcalf. A popular NFL media personality mocked the Seahawks for this asking price.

Booger McFarland Mocks Seahawks for DK Metcalf Asking Price

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Tuesday, March 5that Metcalf had requested a trade, and that the Seahawks agreed to explore options. The full details of this trade request were detailed in a recent PFSN article.

Then, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Seahawks are asking for a first- and third-round pick in return for Metcalf. She also went on to say that Metcalf is looking for a new contract that would pay him around $30 million per year, among the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

If that asking price seems a little outlandish for a good-but-not-elite wide receiver coming off a season in which he had less than 1,000 yards, feel comforted in the fact that at least one popular NFL media analyst would agree.

Booger McFarland of ESPN took to X to joke about the absurdity of this asking price from Seattle: “And I’m seeking to get a 6 pack. What team is giving up a 1st and 3rd. Then gonna pay DK 30 per. lol,” McFarland jabbed.

Despite being in the league since 2019, Metcalf is only 27 years old and will turn 28 in December 2025. So, he will play the majority of 2025 at the age of 27. That said, the production has arguably not quite been there for Metcalf to demand this type of trade return or $30 million per year, let alone one team doing both.

Metcalf’s career-high in receiving yards came in his second season, when he had 1,303 yards in 2020, catching passes from Russell Wilson. He added 10 touchdowns that year and set his career high in receiving touchdowns the following year with 12, Wilson’s last year in Seattle.

With Geno Smith as his QB for the three previous seasons, Metcalf had better stats than expected after the Wilson trade but arguably nowhere close to earning the type of contract he is looking for.

For context, Metcalf currently makes $24 million per year in average annual value (AAV), and only six receivers earn $30 million or more per season in AAV: Brandon Aiyuk, Tyreek Hill, Amon-Ra St. Brown, A.J. Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and Justin Jefferson.
