NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms believes that Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ traditional skill set will be intriguing to NFL general managers. While discussing Sanders ahead of Super Bowl 59 this weekend, Simms outlined how professional franchises still love the quarterbacks who can accurately throw from the pocket, something Sanders does extremely well.
At this point, it appears as though Sanders and Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward will be the top two QBs selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, both quarterbacks play different styles than one another. While Ward is more mobile and has a bigger arm, Sanders is more of a pocket QB who can run when needed but is more known for his accuracy and arm talent.
What Did Chris Simms Say About Shedeur Sanders?
Simms outlined how teams are still interested in pocket passing QBs, despite the increase of running quarterbacks in recent years. The popular Buffaloes fan profile @DNVR_Buffs posted the video on X.
“Do you think there’s also a place where an NFL GM is going to fall in love with seeing that true pocket-passer style?” Simms was asked.
“Yeah, I do. I like a quarterback that can move and run. I understand that. The name of the game is still making throws in the pocket. It’s still the name of the game. I mean, you look at the best teams, you look at the guy that’s wearing red and 15 up here [Patrick Mahomes]. Yeah, he makes a few plays with his legs every game, I get that, but he’s still surgically destroying you with his arm and his decisions in the pocket,” Simms responded.

Shedeur Sanders’ 2025 NFL Draft Projection
In Pro Football Network’s latest 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Sanders was the No. 2 QB off the board (behind Ward) and was selected No. 6 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders.
“The marriage of Shedeur Sanders to the Raiders feels too good to be true. If the Titans pass on a quarterback at No. 1, though, there’s a chance Las Vegas could select its quarterback of the future without having to mortgage the future.
Sanders is an accurate passer who stays tough in the pocket and delivers his throws with a sense of touch down the field. Having a head coach like Pete Carroll and a superstar target like Brock Bowers would help the Colorado star mask his shortcomings and emphasize his strengths.”
