Former Patriots QB Reveals the Major Difference Between Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady in NFL GOAT Debate

Former NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer said the Kansas City Chiefs getting blown out of Super Bowl 59 cements Tom Brady as the GOAT.

The title “Greatest of All Time” is thrown around a lot, and after Super Bowl 59, it’s a hot-button topic.

Former NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer believes that the major difference between Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Tom Brady was how poorly Mahomes performed in the Super Bowl.

According to Hoyer, there is no comparison between the two, and he sees Brady as the greatest of all time.

Does Super Bowl 59 Affect Mahomes’ Legacy?

Hoyer, who played with Brady in New England, is a believer that his former teammate is the ultimate GOAT. While Brady lost the Super Bowl three times, he was never the victim of a blowout. In Mahomes’ two Super Bowl losses, his team lost by at least three scores on both occasions.

Hoyer is not the only one to hold and maintain this belief. Radio personality Craig Carton has taken to the airwaves to voice his opinion on Brady being the GOAT and Mahomes still struggling to find his identity in the postseason.

Despite having three Super Bowl victories, Mahomes also has two blowouts in the big game, which should separate him from Brady, according to Carton. However, notwithstanding his performance in Super Bowl 59, Carton still views Mahomes as a very good team leader and quarterback.

Media Personality Discusses NFL ‘GOAT’ Debate

Mahomes has been the gold standard for this era of NFL quarterback play. He has one fewer Super Bowl win (three) than postseason losses (four), and he’s made it to the AFC Championship Game each year he’s been Kansas City’s starter.

At the age of 29, he’s already become a future first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, according to Carton, his performance in Super Bowl 59 has ended the GOAT debate.

“This puts the GOAT conversation to bed once and for all, and I’m again on the right side of history, which makes me feel good.”

The “Breakfast Ball” host is known for being critical of the Chiefs, so these comments are no surprise.

He continued, “It’s over. Stop talking about how Patrick Mahomes is a better quarterback than Tom Brady. He’s not Tom Brady, and that’s OK.”

Brady is who every current and future quarterback should aspire to be. He played for 23 years going 7-3 in 10 Super Bowl appearances with five Super Bowl MVP awards. That’s a résumé that no other player should come close to touching.

Mahomes has been in the NFL for eight seasons (seven as a starter), and his early career success gives him a leg to stand on in the GOAT debate. He’s 17-4 in the postseason and now 3-2 in the Super Bowl. Kansas City would have to make and win five more Super Bowls for Mahomes to surpass Brady.

It’s not impossible as long as Andy Reid is the head coach, but it’s a tall mountain to climb, especially since Brady beat Mahomes in their two postseason meetings.

Mahomes still has the best chance of catching Brady despite the Super Bowl 59 setback, but Carton no longer considers the Kansas City star a threat to the throne. He wasn’t even the best quarterback in Super Bowl 59, according to the FS1 host.
