Kurt Benkert Isn’t Too Impressed With Shedeur Sanders

Benkert took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a lengthy analysis of Sanders’ skills based on tapes that he studied of the 22-year-old.

“If I was a team with a top 10, pick, I would be really skeptical about taking him there. They have to truly ask themselves if he can elevate them with a roster that has a lack of talent,” Benkert posted.

“There’s a true opportunity cost when you take a quarterback high and I don’t think grabbing him in the top 10 is worth missing out on a top receiver, DB, edge rusher, or lineman,” he posted.

The former NFL QB stated that Sanders will not rid teams of their deficits in other departments. He went on to suggest that Sanders should be an ideal pick in the late first or early second round. Teams possessing top picks should bolster other parts of their teams.

Benkert argued that presently Sanders can be considered a blend of C.J. Stroud and Jared Goff — however, being a bit lesser than them with the potential to reach their success.

Benkert highlighted some of the great things that Sanders possesses including his ability to withstand pressure in the pocket and sidestep when necessary.

“I’d love to see him in a system with Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, or even in Miami or Pittsburgh where he can play point guard and operate the offense as a distributor, and make the extra plays when needed,” he tweeted.

While Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan made headlines for suggesting Sanders reminds him of Joe Burrow, Benkert did not comment on that connection. NFL fans, on the other hand, have had plenty to say about it. Interestingly, the former QB doesn’t advise the Titans to pick Sanders in the draft.

“He can’t be a superhero if that’s what you need him for, but he for sure can play ball and be an asset for a team,” concluded Benkert.
