Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson believes that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be the key to the team’s success this year. Fresh off signing a new long-term contract with ‘America’s Team’ in the offseason, Prescott struggled this past year before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury requiring surgery. He will likely be the Cowboys’ key to success in 2025.

What Did Chad Johnson Say About Dak Prescott?
While discussing the upcoming NFL Draft and the offseason on the popular ‘Nightcap’ podcast with Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Shannon Sharpe, Johnson detailed how Prescott needs to overcome any challenges offensively or defensively in a similar manner as Patrick Mahomes does in KC.
Johnson made it clear to Sharpe that Prescott needed to step up for the Cowboys next season, even if things around him on offense or defense were not going well.
“The Cowboys need some work, especially defensively, we know that. There have been some games where they showed up and showed out. But it’s all on Dak. It’s all on Dak this year, baby. It’s all on Dak. Dak is gonna have to be the one to overcome all the struggles he got to. Whatever struggles they have on defense, Dak has to overcome that. Dak has to overcome any issues on offense, similar to what Mahomes does,” Johnson stated.
Dallas Cowboys 2025 Outlook
Although the Cowboys had a terrible 2024 campaign, they unquestionably have the talent to compete in the NFC. CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Prescott are some of the very best at their respective positions.
With former head coach Mike McCarthy no longer with the franchise, the Cowboys team will be under the leadership of new boss Brian Schottenheimer. With the NFL Draft and free agency quickly approaching, the Cowboys ownership and coaching staff will need to continue to find talent for the positions in which they struggled last year.
The main glaring offensive weakness last year came at the running back position. The backfield of Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott, and Dalvin Cook had the sixth-fewest rushing yards per game in the NFL (100.3). With various interesting options available in the 2025 NFL Draft, including Ashton Jeanty and Quinshon Judkins, the Cowboys have the chance to provide Prescott with another weapon on the offensive side of the ball this year.
