Legendary college football coach Nick Saban gave the ultimate endorsement for Deion Sanders, AKA Coach Prime, to get hired as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Saban is not the only football expert who has called for Sanders to get the top job in Dallas. One notable former Super Bowl champion agrees.
NFL WR Tells Jerry Jones Cut to the Chase, Hire Deion Sanders ASAP
Amid heightened speculation linking Sanders and the Cowboys, Saban, who won seven NCAA titles in college football, rallied in support of Coach Prime’s hiring.
“I want him to get that job,” Saban said on The Pivot podcast.
The latest endorsement from Saban has many analysts seconding that thought.
Sanders, who has gone 40-18 in five seasons as college football coach, turned around the not-so-good-looking Colorado Buffaloes program into the mainstream, taking over in late 2022 when the team was coming off a one-win season. The following season, he improved the program to 4-8, and in the 2024 season, he made them bowl-eligible and were in the running for making the conference title game.
During Thursday’s appearance on the “Speak” podcast, alongside Joy Taylor, Paul Pierce, and Michael Irvin, former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was blunt about what Jones should do regarding hiring Sanders.
“I don’t know how much it weighs on Jerry, what Nick is saying, because Jerry is going to do what Jerry is going to do,” Johnson said. “The way to handle this is simple: stop playing and just hire the man. I know you wanted to wait until Super Bowl week.”
Former Cowboys Legend Feels Jones Should Consider Saban’s Endorsement for Coach Prime
Former Cowboys legend Michael Irvin echoed similar sentiments, saying if Saban has openly endorsed Sanders for the job, that means there is some logic behind it.
“I hope so, and I love the fact that Nick Saban comes out and gives love to Deion. You know, it’s just the utmost respect that Deion has for Coach Saban,” Irvin said.
“When you hear guys like that, with such a strong reputation — especially when it comes to football matters and the way he’s handled himself on the football field and what he’s accomplished — he’s above reproach. So, when he says a guy is ready, yeah, you’ve got to consider that.”
