Former NFL Wide Receiver Drops 4-Word Reaction to Deion Sanders’ Potential Cowboys Move

Chad Johnson believes that the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys will be Deion Sanders. In a post released on X (formerly Twitter), Johnson kept it short and sweet about who he thinks will take over for departing coach Mike McCarthy.

While no formal interview has taken place at this time, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Sanders and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had discussed and thrown around the idea of Coach Prime moving from the Colorado Buffaloes’ sideline to the one in Arlington.

What Did Chad Johnson Say About Deion Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys?

Johnson made clear that he thought the Cowboys should appoint Coach Prime as their next head coach. However, in the post, he did not get into full detail about the reasoning behind his opinion.

“Prime to the Cowboys ⭐️,” he posted.

McCarthy hit the open market after his contract expired and the two parties could not reach acceptable terms. Dallas had blocked McCarthy from interviewing with the Chicago Bears, but the Cowboys’ spot is officially up for grabs.

Could Sanders Become Cowboys’ Head Coach?

Sanders appears to be in contention for the Cowboys head coaching vacancy. However, numerous things must occur before this could even be a realistic possibility. First and foremost, the Cowboys would need to conduct a complete head coaching search that included interviews with potential candidates.

Those candidates may include — in addition to Sanders — former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Each would look to improve an offense that ranked 22nd in PFN’s Offense+ metric. By Defense+, Dallas ranked 26th.

The next and most important step in the process would be Sanders deciding to leave his post as head coach at the University of Colorado. Though many football fans and analysts have circulated Coach Prime’s name around for NFL jobs in recent months, he has made clear in the past that he was committed to the ongoing project with the Buffaloes.

He shared a similar sentiment again on Monday while speaking to ESPN.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders said. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

As is clear, it is a very real possibility that Sanders will become the next head coach of America’s Team. Between other candidates, Sanders’ buyout, and the promises he’s made to recruits, though, fans shouldn’t hold their breath in anticipation of Coach Prime coming home.
