Coaches yelling at players is as old as time. However, according to one former NFL quarterback, the latest incident between Sean Payton and Russell Wilson may have gone too far. In what has been an up-and-down first season for Payton and the Denver Broncos, it has seemed at times they have it all together and are ready to make a serious run for the playoffs.
Then just as quick as that, there seems to be a moment or incident that makes you think otherwise. Robert Griffin III spoke with NFL great Michael Vick about the moment, and he thinks it wasn’t handled correctly by the coach.
Robert Griffin III Believes Sean Payton Should Apologize to Russell Wilson
On the latest episode of ‘RG3 and the Ones,’ the former NFL QB spoke about the latest sideline outburst from coach Payton directed toward Wilson.
While this is not a unique thing throughout the history of the NFL, RG3 speaks to the fact that it may just be another case of Payton embarrassing his QB in front of the world and that he did not like it.

“They asked Sean after the game, ‘Why did he yell at Russell like that?’ and Sean said, ‘Well, whatever I talk to Russell about ain’t none of your business,'” Griffin started before giving his thoughts on the matter.
“And I don’t disagree with that; I agree with that. But Sean Payton, as a coach, if you don’t want people to ask that question, then you can’t do that to your quarterback on the sideline. … This is like the second or third iteration of Sean Payton doing something to Russell — to me, that makes it seem like that’s not his guy.
“Whatever it may be, he embarrassed his quarterback on the sideline, and now the rest of the team in my opinion is more so looking at that moment like, ‘Damn, Sean Payton really don’t rock with Russell Wilson.”
RG3 ended his thoughts on the matter by suggesting that Payton owed his quarterback an apology for the moment.
“I do feel like Sean Payton should come out in the media publicly and apologize to Russell Wilson.”

The former NFL QB feels strongly about the matter, and it is understandable. It is never a comfortable place for anyone involved to see a grown man scolded in the manner Payton did to Wilson. Add to that the fact that this was not the first instance of contention between the coach and player, it isn’t absurd to think that an apology may be in order.
