Kyle Shanahan has led the San Francisco 49ers to numerous successes, including two Super Bowl games (which they lost). However, with a record of 5-6, this season is already in trouble.
As such, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho has called the head coach out. After the disappointing 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 12, Acho is calling this Shanahan’s worst season with the Niners.
Emmanuel Acho Reviews Kyle Shanahan’s Job This Season With 49ers
Acho appeared on FS1’s “The Facility” and dug into the 44-year-old head coach after the 49ers’ loss to the Packers.
“It’s the most disappointing season in the Kyle Shanahan era,” he said. “Kyle Shanahan looks like he’s mismanaged the staff, he’s mismanaged the roster, and he’s mismanaged the offense.”
Acho highlighted Shanahan’s new hiring of Nick Sorensen as the defensive coordinator. He suggested that Sorensen hasn’t been able to fill the gap left by Steve Wilks. Apart from that, Acho criticized Shanahan for not being able to deal with Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel Sr.

“This offense looks stagnant,” added Acho. “Kyle Shanahan has mismanaged the staff. That’s abundantly clear. I believe he’s mismanaged the roster. I believe he’s mismanaged the offense.
“This is the most disappointing season considering expectations of the Kyle Shanahan era, and I don’t believe it’s close.”
Since 2017, Shanahan has a 69-57 record (.548 winning percentage) with San Francisco. After leading the franchise to the top of the NFC West consecutively for two seasons, his win percentage has dropped to .455 this year.
Shanahan Has His Say on Loss Against Packers
With their 28-point loss at Lambeau Field, it was the largest margin of defeat against the Packers in 74 games. After the game, a distraught Shanahan did not try to hide his feelings in the press conference.
“The whole game was [disappointing],” Shanahan said. “When you have those penalties, we didn’t stop the run like we did, and we had those three turnovers in the second half. That’s how you get embarrassed.”
The Niners will be on the road for their Week 12 fixture against the Buffalo Bills as well. The game is set to kick off on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
