The new league year in the NFL is quickly approaching, with teams able to get back to business on March 13. At that time, the floodgates will open with free agent signings, and as a result, we’ll see players all across the league joining new teams. One of those players that could be on the move is quarterback Kirk Cousins.
The Minnesota Vikings quarterback is still rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon injury he suffered this season but is an unrestricted free agent expected to have a robust market for his services. With the where still in question, one former NFL general manager has an idea of where Cousins might play next.
Former NFL GM Thinks Kirk Cousins Will Be a Falcon
Former NFL GM and current analyst Mike Tannenbaum jumped on ESPN Radio to talk about a host of NFL-related topics. One of those happened to be Cousins and where he thinks he will play next.
“I think he will be a [Atlanta] Falcon…every day we get closer to next week, guys, the deal isn’t done (with the Vikings), and you start connecting the dots that Atlanta desperately needs a quarterback.
“Raheem Morris, Kirk Cousins were together in Washington, everyone knows all the information by now if he was going to re-sign with Minnesota, every day it doesn’t get done, he gets closer to being a Falcon…”
There has been much speculation about just where Cousins will end up, with several people assuming that a return to Minnesota is a natural fit. However, as Tannenbaum mentions, every day a deal doesn’t get done, becomes a day closer he can speak with other teams inquiring about his services.
With the connection between Cousins and the decision-makers in Atlanta, Tannenbaum believes that is where he could ultimately end up. It’s a storyline worth monitoring, as the Falcons will most certainly be in the free agent market looking for a quarterback and assumedly will draft one in April as well.
Cousins and his next move will change the NFC landscape. His departure from Minnesota now creates a need for them and their talented roster that would struggle without a solidified QB in place.

For the Falcons, with a talented and young roster anchored by a veteran QB, a move to acquire Cousins would make them real players in the NFC.
There is still a lot of time between now and March 13. And with so much on the line, it will be something many in league circles will be paying attention to — to see if Tannenbaum ultimately ends up being correct.
