‘I’ve Come Around’ – Former NFL DE Gives Insight on Deion Sanders’ Potential Cowboys Move

    Published on

A former NFL defensive end believes that the timing makes sense for Deion Sanders to make the move from Colorado to the NFL.

Former NFL defensive end and current ESPN analyst Marcus Spears has come around to the idea of Deion Sanders becoming the newest head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. While appearing on the popular “Rich Eisen Show” earlier this week, Spears explained that he thought the sample size was now big enough for Coach Prime’s rumored move to Dallas to make sense.

Speculation has grown more intense in recent weeks about Sanders potentially becoming the next head coach of the Cowboys after longtime coach Mike McCarthy’s contract was not extended. Furthermore, Sanders and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had a phone call to discuss the possibility and interest level of a potential reunion, something Sanders himself confirmed to ESPN.

What Did Marcus Spears Say About Deion Sanders to the Cowboys?

Spears explained that the coaching sample size at the University of Colorado was now large enough for Sanders’ move to Dallas to make sense for everyone involved.

Citing his ability to build a good team culture and develop two top NFL prospects (Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter), Spears made clear that “Prime Time” should consider a move to the NFL.

“I like the possibility, Rich. I’ve come around. Last year if you would have asked me this, I would have said ‘nah, I need to see more.’ Rich, let’s be honest bro, a lot of times, you know in this business people get enamored with names and they get enamored with things and to just throw Deion’s name out there for me was really more about Prime Time and what he did beyond coaching.

“Now, we have a two-year sample size of building culture at Colorado. We have two players from Colorado are going to go in the top 10 of the NFL Draft,” he explained.

Does Deion Sanders to Dallas Make Sense?

Sanders played for the Cowboys during his playing career and has built a strong relationship with Jones over the years. He also has experience coaching talented players at the college level, something the Cowboys have plenty of. CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are two of the top players at their respective positions and could develop even further under the guidance of Coach Prime.

However, Sanders has also made clear that he has no intention of leaving the Buffaloes program and is committed to the ongoing project. As a result, though it does make sense, it is still unclear whether the Sanders-to-Dallas rumors will become more than pure speculation.
