With an 11-1 record, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs has already secured a playoff spot for this season. However, their close finishes have left the fans wanting more clinical performances.
On his podcast, former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick talked at length about these issues. Fitzpatrick did not hold back as he outlined the possibilities of the Chiefs not being able to go all the way this season.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Wants Patrick Mahomes and Co. To Understand the Issues at Hand
On Black Friday, the Chiefs won 19-17 over their divisional rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders. It was another W in the books for them, but like many games this season, it was another close affair.
Fitzpatrick, on his podcast “Fitz & Whit” with former NFL tackle Andrew Whitworth, unloaded his analysis of the Chiefs. “There are some bad vibes on that sideline,” he said. “There are some bad vibes within that team right now and those things are hard to get rid of.”
“I mean there’s an ominous feeling even though this team is now 11-1. And I just think this team is different and the biggest reason why is their defense is not nearly as dominant as they were last year, and I don’t think they’re just going to be able to flip the switch.”
Fitzpatrick later highlighted that the Chiefs faced this sort of criticism last year as well, but Mahomes powered them through the playoffs. However, the chances of that happening again seemed slim according to Fitzpatrick.
“But I just think they’re going to run into some problems with some of these dynamic offenses in the AFC and they’re going to fall behind in a game,” he added.
Mahomes Mulls Over the Mistakes During the Raiders Game
Mahomes threw for 306 yards with a 56.5% completion rate and scored a touchdown against the Raiders. Like other analysts and pundits, the quarterback also has issues with his team despite being atop the AFC West.
“Just too many mistakes at the end of the day,” Mahomes said. “I felt like there were times offensively we moved the ball — didn’t execute in the red zone, didn’t execute enough on third down — too many mistakes. We’ve got to clean that up if we want to get to where we want to go.”
In Week 14, the Chiefs will once again host a divisional foe at Arrowhead Stadium. The game against the Los Angeles Chargers is scheduled for Sunday, December 8.
