Former Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz Takes Shot at Dallas Organization

Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz didn't hold back when asked about his time with the historic franchise on The Pat McAfee Show.

Since buying the franchise in 1989, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has transformed his team into quite a spectacle. While many players enjoy the attention that comes with playing for the Cowboys, former tight end Dalton Schultz was critical of his tenure in Dallas.

What Did Dalton Schultz Say About the Dallas Cowboys?

On Wednesday, Schultz joined The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN to discuss several topics around the NFL. McAfee asked Schultz about the culture shock he experienced after leaving the Cowboys and signing with the Houston Texans last offseason.

Schultz described how the focus is just football in Houston, which he wasn’t used to after playing under the bright lights in Dallas. The former Cowboys tight end said that some of his Texans teammates don’t believe his stories from his time in Dallas.

“They’re like, ‘Holy crap, that actually happens at a practice facility?’ You think it’s normal, and then you come to a place like this,” said Schultz.

Schultz then went into further detail about the odd situations that he experienced while playing for the Cowboys. Including comparing the practice facility in Dallas to a zoo.

“There’s people literally going on tours while you’re lifting in the weight room. And they’ve got a one-way mirror for people to, like, look at; it’s literally, it’s a zoo, dude.”

    Schultz Enjoying Success in Houston

Following his tenure in Dallas, Schultz signed a one-year contract worth up to $9 million with the Texans last offseason. He finished his first season in Houston with 59 receptions for 635 yards and five touchdowns, building a strong connection with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.

It’s clear that Schultz enjoyed his lone season in Houston, as he agreed to a three-year extension worth $36 million before the start of free agency. Schultz mentioned that he was scared to leave Dallas at first and was scared of the unknown. Yet, he was pleasantly surprised by the Texans following his first season with the franchise.

“I got here, and I was like … this place is a well-oiled machine,” Schultz said. “Coaching staff, the coaching changes. I can’t speak to the previous stuff. The strength staff is phenomenal. The training staff is unbelievable.”

Despite taking shots at the Cowboys on The Pat McAfee Show, Schultz appeared grateful for his time with the organization. Although, he is clearly happy playing across the state of Texas as he is thriving as part of a well-oiled machine in Houston.
