It’s finally happened! The Dallas Cowboys have decided that Brian Schottenheimer will lead them as head coach.

Dez Bryant Takes Aim at Jerry Jones for Promoting Brian Schottenheimer to Cowboys HC

As soon as Schottenheimer’s name started floating as the possible candidate to succeed Mike McCarthy, many ex-players and analysts started expressing their disapproval. Bryant was one of them, too.

However, after his confirmation, the three-time Pro Bowler took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out Jones.

“I honestly don’t know how to feel right now. I’m trying to understand what Jerry meant by saying he was ‘all in.’ Maybe the coach is good, maybe he’s not, but my energy towards how the Cowboys have been mixing things doesn’t feel like success anytime soon,” Bryant tweeted initially.

The 36-year-old was then goaded by a fan to not mince his word and speak his mind. Bryant did not waste much time and laid the blame at the owner’s feet.

“It’s no point for me to get riled up… I’m really looking forward to hearing Jerry’s reason for this..saying this is what the players wanted…”

“I’ll argue that only 1 or 2 players were asked.. and it was framed as what the team wanted…Somebody in the organization needs to step up and tell Jerry that the old ways of thinking don’t exist in this new era,” he tweeted.

Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys in 2022 and then was promoted to OC by McCarthy. He spent two seasons in that rank and is rumored to have a good working relationship with Dak Prescott.

Several analysts and insiders believe that Prescott’s liking for Schottenheimer was one of the key reasons for his elevation to the head coach post. Last season, the Cowboys made Prescott the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, and they are willing to trust his judgment.

The 51-year-old Schottenheimer is the son of legendary NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer. He started his career at Washington in 2001 under his father’s tutelage.
