Former Colts Head Coach Shuts Down Jayden Daniels’ MVP Hype Despite Historic Start to Rookie Season

Talks of Commanders QB Jayden Daniels as front-runner in the MVP race got shut down by a former Colts head coach -- "I do not buy it."

Jayden Daniels has been a revelation for the Washington Commanders. Last week in the battle of the top two picks from this year’s NFL Draft, Daniels proved his superiority.

There is noise of him being the front-runner for the NFL MVP accolade in his rookie season. However, former Indianapolis Colts player and head coach Jeff Saturday isn’t sold on the hype.

Jeff Saturday Has No Regard for Jayden Daniels in the MVP Talk

Daniels has started all eight games of his rookie season and has a record of 6-2. With 1,736 yards and seven touchdowns to his name, the QB has turned the fortunes around for the city of Washington.

During ESPN’s show Get Up, the panel discussed the possibility of Daniels winning the MVP award. However, Saturday shut them down. “I do not buy it,” he said. “But I love it. Hello, I’m a fan and I got emotional when I got the feeling. You know what I mean? It’s like home days. He’s on it. Feel it. I’m going, Jared Goff.”

In the history of the NFL, there’s only one player who has won the MVP accolade in his rookie year. Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown achieved this impossible feat in 1957.

Jayden Daniels Should Be Supplied With More Weapons in His Arsenal Argues an NFL Analyst

Daniels has been thriving with the Commanders. However, to make him truly unbeatable, he needs a top-shelf wide receiver argues CBS’ Tyler Sullivan.

“(The Commanders) could use a pass catcher to further build around Daniels,” he wrote. “And if the Bengals fall further below .500 between now and the deadline, what bigger swing could GM Adam Peters make than dealing for Higgins?”

Sullivan wants the Commanders to acquire Tee Higgins from the Cincinnati Bengals. The 25-year-old has been franchise tagged at $21.8 million. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5, with only a handful of days remaining, the Commanders could look to Higgins to boost their output.

Daniels will be on the road this week as the Commanders face off against the New York Giants in Week 9.
