Former Browns QB Offers Honest Opinion on Arch Manning’s Year As QB1 in 2025

A former Browns QB and college football standout spoke about the pressure that Arch Manning is feeling heading into next season.

Arch Manning is expected to have every opportunity to be the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns next season. Texas’ 2024 starter, Quinn Ewers, declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, and as a result, there is no opposition for Arch Manning. Even before Ewers declared for the draft, the public expectation was that Manning would be the starter in 2025, regardless of Ewers’ decision.

Former Browns QB Johnny Manziel Gives Honest Opinion on Arch Manning

Johnny Manziel, also known as Johnny Football, had a tremendous college football career that culminated with a Heisman Trophy win in 2012 with Texas A&M. Like Manning, he was viewed as one the biggest young stars in the sport when he came into college. While he was able to overcome that pressure as a college football player, he struggled to have a successful NFL career.

While Manziel was a first-round pick, selected 22nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, his career was short. He struggled with off-field issues. He was only a member of an NFL team during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He appeared in 15 games in those seasons but was cut after the 2015 season, eventually retiring after a short career.

While his career had its ups and downs, Manziel certainly knows what it feels like to be under a lot of pressure. Manning is likely feeling the pressure of not just taking over as the starting quarterback of a successful college football program but also of living up to his family name. Notably, two of his uncles are former NFL stars, Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manziel spoke to Action Network on Saturday about the young Manning:

“I think this is what all the Texas fans want. This is what the clamoring and all the hoopla you’ve been hearing all year from them is to put Arch in, so now they get their chance. Obviously, he’s really highly touted. He’s played sparingly here at times. It’s going to be really interesting to see how he comes in and handles his Texas program.”

“Now you go from Quinn Ewers to Arch Manning. Things at the quarterback position in Austin, [Texas,] are looking pretty good for them so far, but we’ll see how it goes next year.”

It will be interesting to see how Manning handles the pressure in 2025. He performed well in relief of Ewers when he got the opportunity to play this season.
