Travis Hunter had a stellar season for the Colorado Buffaloes in 2024. He played both cornerback and wide receiver, establishing himself as one of the best players in the nation at both positions. As a result, he received the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football. Now, there is a debate about whether he can play both positions in the NFL.
Most draft experts believe Hunter should play cornerback in the NFL with a few packages as a wide receiver.

Chad ‘Ocho’ Johnson Discusses Travis Hunter’s Decision To Enter the NFL Draft Combine as a Cornerback
It was announced that Hunter will be attending the NFL Draft Combine as a cornerback. On ‘NightCap’ on Friday, Shannon Sharpe asked former Bengals star Chad “Ocho” Johnson if he was surprised.
“No not at all. Listen I am surprised a little bit because I’ve said and I’ve said it all the time especially during the season, I would like to see Travis Hunter on the offensive side of the ball and then play a few packages on defense. I’m just saying from a financial standpoint when it comes time to get paid, who gets paid more money unc? The receivers or the DBs? That’s the only reason.”
“But listen, I like that he’s going in as a DB. It’s gonna be nice, especially in the drills to see his transition, how skilled he is, getting in and out of breaks, ball skills. I think he’s gonna do very, very, very well and I’m saying when it’s time to run the 40, I wouldn’t be surprised if he runs 4.2 seconds.”
Hunter is projected to make a lot of money in the NFL, regardless of the position he chooses to primarily play. It has not even been ruled out that Hunter could play both positions full-time in the NFL. That decision will be up to the coaching staff of the team that selects him.
Hunter is viewed by most draft experts as a top-five pick. Many say he is the best player in the draft, but do not have him as the first pick. That is because many people have the opinion that the Tennessee Titans will opt to draft a quarterback with the first pick. If that is the case, they will either take Hunter’s teammate, Shedeur Sanders, or Miami QB Cam Ward. It will be interesting to see which team takes him and what stance they take on his position.
