Former NFL defensive back Adam Jones has revealed that he never used his own urine when taking drug tests. Speaking to Deion Sanders on Sanders’ weekly show “We Got Time Today,” Jones claims he cheated the system throughout his professional career.

Adam Jones Makes Wild Claim to Deion Sanders
During his interview with Sanders and co-host Rocsi Diaz, the conversation turned to the subject of drugs and the NFL’s policy on the matter. Jones revealed that he smoked cannabis throughout his career, which Sanders confirmed enthusiastically.
But then Jones stated that he continuously cheated the system throughout his career, claiming that he never completed a urine test using his own urine.
“I cheated the program,” Adam “PacMan” Jones said. “Like, I was really good. People don’t know how smart I am, but like, I can say it now. I don’t play no more. But like, I’ve never used my (urine) for a (urine) test. Not one time. Not one time.”
When Sanders said players can’t get away with that today, Jones pushed back. “It can happen if you know what you’re doing,” Jones said.
“Don’t say it can’t happen, pop. Hey pop, don’t say it can’t happen. … You still can get ‘em.” Jones offered to reveal his secret and started to say it has to do with “the cups they give you,” but Sanders cut him off.
Jones would go on to promote the benefits of THC and say that testing for the substance has no place in sports.
“I don’t think [any] sport should be testing for THC. I’m a big advocate of it, I’ve talked the NFL, I’ve had meetings with [Roger] Goodell a couple times.”
Jones’ Career Legacy in Question?
Jones’ last season came in 2018, finishing his career with a one-year stint in Colorado with the Denver Broncos. While in no danger of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Jones’ eight-year spell with the Cincinnati Bengals was very productive.
Jones ranks fourth among all Bengals players since 1999 with 64 passes defensed, and his 12 interceptions with the team ranks 20th all-time (tied with Shawn Williams).
Jones was drafted sixth overall in the 2005 NFL Draft and spent two years with the team. Jones was then suspended for the 2007 season for off-field issues and was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he played one season before being released.
After a year away from football, Jones finally found a long-term home in Cincinnati, recording 100 appearances, 12 interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. During his time in Cincinnati, Jones was named a first-team All-Pro in 2014 and made his only Pro Bowl appearance at the end of the 2025 season.
Jones’ recent revelation shouldn’t impact him in any major way, but his legacy may be viewed differently in the eyes of some.
