Robert Hunt on Monday agreed to one of the richest contracts for an interior offensive lineman in history. On Tuesday, Hunt said goodbye to the team that drafted him, developed him, and helped get the best out of him: The Miami Dolphins.
Robert Hunt’s Farewell Message to Miami Dolphins Fans
Hunt, a day after agreeing to a five-year, $100 million contract with the Carolina Panthers, wrote the following on X:
“WOW!!!!!! Man dreams really do come true! I’m forever GRATEFUL for my time in miami and I’m FOREVER GRATEFUL for the FINS FANS. You guys embraced me with open arms from Louisiana Lafayette and had my back for 4 strong years wow thank you!! I’m gonna miss All my brothers man!”
“I’m Grateful for the past and Excited for the FUTURE #KeepPounding”
That future included riches that surely were unfathomable to Hunt growing up in poverty in Texas.

Hunt is now the second-highest-paid right guard in NFL history ($20 million AAV), behind only the Atlanta Falcons’ Chris Lindstrom ($20.5 million).
While the Dolphins wanted to keep him, there was simply no chance for them to come close to matching what the cash-flush Panthers could offer.
When it became clear that Hunt was gone, the Dolphins moved on to Plan B relatively quickly: Ex-Titan Aaron Brewer, a center/guard hybrid who agreed to a three-year deal with Miami.
NFL Network reports that Brewer, 26, will sign a contract worth $21 million after the league new year begins Wednesday.
The deal will make Brewer one of the 10 highest-paid centers in the league. Since Brewer is on an expiring contract, his signing will count against the Dolphins’ compensatory picks formula.
Brewer was a workhorse for the Titans since he permanently cracked the starting lineup prior to the 2022 season. Brewer, who can play both center and guard, started 34 games in the last two seasons, on the field for 2,081 of a possible 2,085 snaps.

Brewer is a bit shaky in pass protection — he allowed six sacks and committed three holding penalties this year — but he more than makes up for that with his athleticism.
His ability to reach to the second level and the edge in run blocks will absolutely be utilized in Mike McDaniel’s zone running scheme.
