Who Are the Best Wide Receivers To Draft in Fantasy?
Justin Jefferson
Heading into last season’s drafts, Justin Jefferson was the consensus overall WR1. A candidate for the best wide receiver in football, the talent is undeniable. Nothing about Jefferson’s ability has changed since last season. He possesses overall WR1 upside.
The issue is his offense.
Jefferson enjoyed playing the first 3.5 years of his career with Kirk Cousins. While he was able to perform reasonably well with the likes of Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens, and Jaren Hall, it’s unrealistic to project him for the same level of production with lesser QB play.
The combination of Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy should be better than what he had last year, but neither is getting close to Cousins’ levels. McCarthy could get there eventually, but it’s not happening in his rookie year.

Nevertheless, Jefferson remains an elite talent. He’s not going to just be a bad fantasy asset. The question is, how good?
There’s a very real chance we’re getting value on Jefferson anywhere outside the top three at the position. There’s also a chance he suffers a similar fate to 2023 Davante Adams and is only a high WR2.
Jefferson isn’t going to bust, but whether he’s a league-winning player is something we won’t be able to know, making him a difficult puzzle to figure out ahead of 2024 fantasy drafts.
Puka Nacua
When players come out of nowhere, there can be a reluctance among fantasy managers to accept them as elite. Puka Nacua was a fifth-round pick who posted the greatest rookie WR season of all time. Now, he will cost a first-round pick to acquire him in fantasy drafts.
Is he worth it? The answer is a resounding yes.
Although Nacua wasn’t expected to be this good, that doesn’t mean we should be concerned he’s some sort of fraud. He was able to command a 28.7% target share and targeted on 29.1% of his routes run. Nacua’s 2.72 yards per route run was sixth in the league. Wide receivers don’t do this if they aren’t good.
Matthew Stafford is the kingmaker. By all accounts, he’s healthy once again and poised for another season peppering his WR1. That is no longer Cooper Kupp, it’s Nacua. Do not hesitate to draft him in the second half of the first round of 2024 fantasy drafts.
