Fantasy rankings are a matter of personal preference, but with extensive research, here is the framework for drafting quarterbacks.

It’s a new year. Relying on 2023 alone when creating your fantasy football rankings for 2024 is dangerous, as much has changed across the landscape. Here is my early look at the top quarterbacks and how I see them stacking up for the upcoming season.

Who Are the Quarterbacks To Draft in Fantasy?

    C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

It’s hard to overstate what Stroud did as a rookie, and with Houston adding veterans Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon this offseason, it’s clear that the Texans intend on taking full advantage of their budding superstar while he’s on his rookie deal.

The scary part is that there is meat on the bone. Stroud said this offseason that he wants to attack defenses vertically more often this season. He ranked fourth in deep ball Passer Rating as a rookie and 17th on all other throws. The idea of Houston’s offense leaning into Stroud’s strengths should be worrisome for the rest of the league, but that’s not all.

Stroud may not be the type of plus-athlete that Anthony Richardson is, but let’s not dismiss the idea of him adding a little something additional with his legs in 2024.

Last year, 89.2% of Stroud’s fantasy production came through the air, a rare rate among the elite these days. That was the highest rate by a fantasy impact rookie QB since Daniel Jones (89.8% in 2019), a signal-caller who grew into his rushing production with time.

Stroud isn’t going to be Jones long term when it comes to rushing production. But if he can sustain his numbers from the second half of the season and flirt with 50 fantasy points as a runner this season, Stroud could finish as a Tier 1 option at the position.

    Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Last season, the top four scoring fantasy quarterbacks all had multiple rushing touchdowns and a pass catcher who was selected within the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.

Murray is rumored to be fully healthy and with the addition of Marvin Harrison Jr., (stacking this tandem should very much be on your radar) his primary two weapons both have a top-two round pedigree. In addition to fitting the profile that we want, the schedule runs out in a favorable fashion.

We generally look for a bye during the second half of the season, with warm-weather games down the stretch and the toughest divisional opponent scheduled for Week 18, after most fantasy champions have already been crowned.

    Check, check, check.
