Who Are the Best Quarterbacks To Draft in Fantasy?

    Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

For the first five years of his career (excluding his rookie year, where he backed up QB Alex Smith), Patrick Mahomes never averaged below 20 fantasy points per game. Last season, he averaged just 18.4 points per game, finishing lower than the overall QB6 for the first time in his career (QB10).

After one down year where the Chiefs’ offense struggled across the board, that’s it? Mahomes is no longer a top-three QB? Mahomes is about to remind everyone just who he is.

In the regular season, the Chiefs scored a mere 37 offensive touchdowns. By comparison, they scored 59 in 2022 and 53 in 2021. They’ve since upgraded their pass catchers by drafting Xavier Worthy and signing Hollywood Brown. Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice are back. So is Isiah Pacheco. This is the most complete offense Mahomes has ever had.

At his lowest ADP since his first year starting, Mahomes is a value for the first time since that season. Would it really shock anyone if Mahomes threw for 40 touchdowns and finished as the overall QB1?

    Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Not everyone can draft an elite QB. Inevitably, a handful of teams will be starting quarterbacks ranked in the QB10-14 range. Whether by choice or by force, if you’re one of those teams, look to the Washington Commanders rookie as your premier late-round QB option.

Jayden Daniels ran the ball 135 times for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns last year in college. I’m quite confident he will average around eight or nine carries per game this season. With that level of rushing volume, Daniels is a virtual lock to finish as a QB1 regardless of how advanced he is as a passer.

What if Daniels progresses as a thrower quicker than expected? What if he accounts for 30 touchdowns? What if the Commanders are better than we think?

There are many ways Daniels can smash his ADP. The only realistic way he is likely to fail is if he gets hurt. Admittedly, that is a risk, but it’s a risk for just about every player in the NFL. Drafting scared does not win championships. If you don’t take an elite QB1, Daniels provides the most upside for the lowest price.
