Fantasy Week 7 QB Start/Sit: Top Options Include Matthew Stafford and Kirk Cousins

Looking ahead to Week 7, which QBs should be in line to start for fantasy football managers, and who should be considered as a sit?

For those of you who roster only stud quarterbacks in one-QB leagues, bye weeks can put you in a tough spot when it comes to making roster decisions.

Well, for those of you without Joe Burrow this week, here are some of my start/sit options at the QB position for Week 7 of fantasy football action.

Which QBs Should You Start in Fantasy This Week?

    Tate’s Other Week 7 Start/Sit Options: RB | WR | TE

    Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Matthew Stafford didn’t quite have the day we hoped for against the Arizona Cardinals, but he still managed to find Cooper Kupp for a score to somewhat salvage his fantasy day.

The Rams leaned on the running heavily in the second half, leading to just 24 passing attempts from Stafford, which was easily his lowest mark of the season.

Next, he’ll get a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has had some issues slowing down passing attacks this season. I could see a bounce-back performance from the Rams passing game in Week 7.

Which QBs Should You Sit in Fantasy This Week?

    Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

The stars aren’t exactly aligning perfectly for Kirk Cousins’ fantasy value recently.

First, he loses Justin Jefferson to the injured reserve. Then, he has to face off against the Chicago Bears in very windy conditions. Now, he’s going to face a San Francisco 49ers defense who will be playing with a chip on their shoulder after letting a game slip away.

In his first game without Jefferson this season, Cousins produced just 10.7 fantasy points.

Cousins got off to a great start, but I don’t see top-10 upside against the 49ers in Week 7.

Should You Start Brock Purdy or Matthew Stafford?

Brock Purdy finally looked human on an NFL football field. He lost both Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel in the same game against arguably the league’s best defense in horrible weather conditions.

While some of these reasons are legitimate, I want to make sure I’m not being a Purdy apologist either. He struggled. He looked uncomfortable. He had major issues gripping and ripping a wet ball down the field. It was ugly.

At the end of the day, he still made enough throws on the final drive to get his team into field position for a potential game-winning field goal. The NFL can be a humbling league.

I want to make this clear: I’m still a believer in Purdy and believe he will have a good day against the Minnesota Vikings whether McCaffrey or Samuel are available.

I really like what I’ve seen from Stafford this season too, which makes this a tough choice.

Right now, Stafford actually has the healthier group of WRs and is facing a Steelers defense that hasn’t been great against opposing passing attacks this season.

I’m going with Stafford in Week 7.

Should You Start Sam Howell or Kirk Cousins?

Sam Howell has quietly been putting up some solid fantasy numbers this season.

Sure, he is holding the ball too long and taking way too many sacks, but he has still tossed six TD passes to just one interception over the last three weeks. I use this timeframe because this is how Howell responded after a four-interception disaster against the Buffalo Bills.

At times, Howell looks the part of a young franchise quarterback. He has an opportunity to get the team above .500 against the floundering New York Giants and should have a decent day at the office.

On the flip side, Cousins has a very tough matchup against the Niners defense without the services of Justin Jefferson. I’ll roll with Howell this week.
