Wharton’s Start ‘em Sit ‘em Week 15: Start Christian Watson, Sit Mike Evans

Week 15's fantasy football start/sit decisions are highlighted by names such as Christian Watson and Mike Evans, among others.

Week 15 of the fantasy football season has a great slate of games, with some strong playoff contenders going head-to-head. Hopefully, your carefully curated roster is in good shape after the devastating slew of injuries that have affected the NFL. You’re in the right place if you’re in a tough situation with your start/sit questions.

Week 15 Fantasy Football Start ’ems

We’ve dug through the latest roster percentages to identify fantasy football players who you must either start or sit. Our two start options are currently being started in around 40% or fewer of leagues, whereas our two sit players are at around 70% or more. We’re also looking at players owned in a majority of leagues.

Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers

After four straight games with a touchdown scored and at least 19 fantasy points for managers, if you have Christian Watson on your roster and he’s not in your lineup, you’re missing the boat. From Weeks 10 through 13, Watson had the third-most fantasy points in PPR leagues.

He’ll face more competition for targets in Week 15 as Romeo Doubs returns to the lineup after the Packers’ bye week. It won’t matter in a significant way. Since being promoted into a more prominent role, Watson benefits from play designs catering to maximizing his immense athleticism on top of being a mismatch and getting passes from Aaron Rodgers.

The best part of Watson’s output is he’s not been a high-volume target. He has one game with eight targets and is averaging only seven since Week 10. He makes the most of his opportunities.

Facing the tanking Rams is a terrific matchup this week. LA’s defense has cratered over the last month, with Aaron Donald and several other veterans sitting out. After not allowing more than 295 passing yards in a game all season, it’s happened twice in the last three weeks.

I expect Watson to pick on an undertalented and undermanned secondary with at least one scoring play.

    Devin Singletary, RB, Buffalo Bills

Devin Singletary has been a boom-or-bust player for much of the season, but the Bills have had Miami’s number at home over the last few years. Singletary was solid in Miami in Week 3, producing a season-high 19.6 points thanks to his receiving contribution. He logged a season-high nine catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.

That volume is uncommon for Singletary, who has no more than four catches in any other game. But Miami is more vulnerable to pass-catching backs than rushers, and I expect that to continue. Singletary may not find the end zone as a pass catcher for the second time, but he’s produced four rushing scores over the last six weeks.

You can consider taking the higher on Singletary’s rushing categories on Underdog Fantasy because the Dolphins are weak against the run. Our PFN expert PPR fantasy rankings for Week 15 have Singletary as the RB38 against the Dolphins, and I think he’ll surpass those expectations.

Considering Singletary is a Flex option based on matchups for most managers, he’s not a slam-dunk start for every roster. However, if he’s in a coin-flip situation for yours, this is the right time to trust him to produce.

Week 15 Fantasy Football Sit ’ems

Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A model of consistency throughout his career, the stars are fading fast in this Buccaneers offense as 2022 progresses. It’s no fault of Mike Evans, but the Buccaneers’ offensive line and the declining play of Tom Brady have taken a toll on this unit’s production. Tampa Bay has scored more than 22 points just once all season.

What’s hurt Evans more directly has been the emergence of Chris Godwin as a healthy star. Godwin’s back to the form that led him to be the top free agent on the market last offseason. His torn ACL is safely in the rearview mirror, and Brady has fed him double-digit targets in all but three games since Week 1.

That means Evans has become far too touchdown dependent in a low-scoring offense for fantasy managers to trust. He hasn’t reached the end zone since Week 3 and has more than 81 yards only twice since then. Facing Cincinnati this week won’t make things easier.

The Bengals are the fifth-best defense at restricting receiver fantasy production. Evans is a great talent but expect him to have a quiet day. You’ll want him on your bench for his sixth straight game under 10 fantasy points.

    D’Andre Swift, RB, Detroit Lions

It’s not a secret that D’Andre Swift has lost a significant number of red-zone carries to teammate Jamaal Williams. Nevertheless, Swift has still been really good for fantasy managers despite missing three games and dealing with a touchdown vulture in his backfield.

He’s reached double-digit fantasy points in five games and is averaging 11.6 points per game. However, Swift is coming off his worst game of the year against Minnesota despite it being an advantageous matchup, making it his second bad game against the Vikings. He also couldn’t get anything going against Buffalo, Chicago, and Green Bay.

Detroit’s Week 15 foe, the New York Jets, might be the toughest yet for Swift. The Jets rank 11th in fantasy points allowed to backs, proving to be above average against rushers and being slightly more vulnerable against pass catchers.

Swift is averaging three receptions per game but only 25.6 rushing yards per game over his last nine contests. His value is tied to touchdowns and receptions.

I simply don’t like that proposition for a solid defense that will get after quarterback Jared Goff. This should be a grinding game that is low scoring. That bodes poorly for Swift, who is more of an afterthought in this offense.
