Travis Etienne, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Travis Etienne to the moon? No, he’s going to Mars quicker than Elon Musk following the trade which sent James Robinson to the New York Jets as they try to replace Breece Hall after the highly-touted rookie sustained a torn ACL.
As Fat Joe once said, “yesterday’s price is not today’s price.” Etienne has sky-rocketed up fantasy football’s rest-of-season rankings not only due to the trade but his own play on the field, reflective of the guy we saw dominating at Clemson.
After 114 total yards in Week 5 and 108 yards in Week 6, Etienne was busy again against the Giants in Week 7, rushing 14 times for 114 yards with a touchdown and adding five yards on his lone catch (five targets). Not that it matters much anymore, but against New York, he obliterated Robinson 57 to 12 and led 24 to four in routes.
Etienne is a low-end RB1 for the rest of the season and also in Week 8 as the Jaguars take on the Denver Broncos.
Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants
After recording his first touchdown on three of four targets for 37 yards on 25% of the snaps, Robinson built on his positive momentum and turned it into the best day of his career against the Jaguars.
Robinson saw a massive jump in snaps (69%) while running a route on 97% of Daniel Jones’ dropbacks, catching six of his eight targets for 50 yards. He not only led the team in target share, but his 27.5% target-per-route-run rate has now cracked the top 10 for all wide receivers in the NFL (minimum 50 routes).
Robinson has done what I suspected a few weeks ago and became the Giants’ No. 1 receiver. The rookie from Kentucky is here to stay and has the opportunity to become a WR3 for fantasy for the rest of the season.
He sits just outside right now, but if he has another good game against Seattle, Robinson (WR35 for Week 8), he’ll absolutely crack the top 36. He was the number one player to grab off waivers for me the last two weeks.
AJ Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers
2022 feels like the season of disappointing players, and AJ Dillon is near the top. With many wondering if he was more valuable than Aaron Jones a few short months ago, now wonder if the man with the beer keg quads should even be on their roster.
Dillon rushed just four times for 15 yards in Week 7 against Washington and has watched his playing time steadily decrease, falling below 50% for the last three weeks. Dillon sits as the RB46 in PPG (8.2 PPR) but has not scored since Week 1 and has rushed for 60 yards or more only once since Week 2.
Green Bay is in complete disarray, and the offensive line is a mess. Also, the schedule isn’t getting any easier, with a matchup against the Bills in Week 8 followed by Titans, Eagles, Rams, and Vikings still to come.
He remains one of fantasy football’s top handcuffs but doesn’t carry enough value to start. Dillon sits just outside the top 36 in our 2022 fantasy football rest-of-season rankings.
