Fantasy Football Injury Report: QB update
What is the Week 15 status of quarterbacks on the NFL injury report, and what are the fantasy impacts? We’ve got you covered.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen has been limited in practice this week. But on Friday he was removed from Buffalo’s injury report. Fire him up as a QB1, as usual.
Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team
It’s a messy situation in Washington. On Wednesday, Washington placed Kyle Allen on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Taylor Heinicke (knee) joined him on the list on Friday.
Washington signed Jordan Ta’amu to the practice squad. He may need to be elevated as the emergency quarterback behind Kyle Shurmur, whom NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo expects to start. Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin (if active) should be downgraded everywhere.
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow did not practice Wednesday due to his finger injury but practiced in full on Thursday. The team was just managing his reps. Burrow played the entire game last week and should be in deep-league starting lineups against Denver. His ceiling is a bit shakier than most top-14 QBs.
Andy Dalton, Chicago Bears
Andy Dalton hasn’t been able to practice due to a broken bone in his non-throwing hand, and on Saturday he was placed on the COVID list. Justin Fields will continue to start for Chicago, and as stated previously, I doubt we’ll see Dalton again this season.
Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers
On Wednesday, the Panthers designated Sam Darnold to return from injured reserve. They have three weeks to activate him. It’s yet one more surprise in a season of shocks in Carolina. Yes, Darnold could return to the field this season.
Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints
Taysom Hill is still being listed on the injury report due to his finger issue. He played the entire game last week with no issue and practiced in full Wednesday. He should be fine for Sunday.
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Jalen Hurts’ ankle injury is actually a high ankle sprain. Hurts was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday and practiced in full on Friday, so he’s looking good for Week 15 as a must-start fantasy QB.
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson is out for Sunday’s game against the Packers due to a bone bruise in his ankle. Backup QB Tyler Huntley will be a deep-league streamer with enough weapons to keep him relevant.
Daniel Jones, New York Giants
Daniel Jones remains out with a neck injury. He has not been cleared for contact. While he hasn’t been ruled out for the season, it seems highly unlikely that Jones will be rushed back onto the field in a lost season. Expect Mike Glennon to earn another start, with a realistic over/under of 10 fantasy points.
Mac Jones, New England Patriots
Mac Jones popped up on Wednesday’s injury report with a thumb issue, but he was listed as a full participant at practice. He’s fine.
Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum, Cleveland Browns
This week, Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum were the latest victims of the Browns’ COVID-19 outbreak. Both reportedly feel fine — much like almost all of Cleveland’s COVID-positive players — but they will need to record two consecutive negative tests to return to the team. Nick Mullens is expected to start under center for the Browns.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers said he suffered a setback with his injured toe and has not expected to practice much this week. This appears to be a pain-tolerance issue. It would be shocking if he didn’t play in Week 15, and facing a Ravens defense that’s stout against the run and vulnerable against the pass, Rodgers should be in fantasy lineups.
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger missed Wednesday’s practice but returned Thursday. The Steelers claimed Wednesday’s absence was due to his pec/right shoulder, but we all know Roethlisberger is just getting a day off, which has been his Wednesday routine. He should be fine to start Sunday, and he’s one of my favorite fantasy bargains this week.
TE Injury Update
How are injuries impacting tight ends ahead of Week 15? Will fantasy managers need to make backup plans just in case?
Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts
Jack Doyle was limited Wednesday with an ankle issue and was then a full participant on Thursday. Barring a setback, he’ll resume his role as a hit-or-miss fantasy streamer.
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams
The Rams’ entire tight end room tested positive for COVID-19, except Tyler Higbee. He missed Monday’s game due to what turned out to be a false positive and was activated on Tuesday. As of now, he’s good to play this week.
But the Rams are amidst an outbreak, so Higbee is not out of the woods yet. With Odell Beckham Jr. out for Sunday, Higbee could see an uptick in volume and should be viewed as a streamable TE.
T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions
T.J. Hockenson is out for the rest of the season with a hand injury. Backups Shane Zylstra and/or Brock Wright will try to pick up the pieces. In the meantime, wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds could earn small fantasy boosts.
George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
George Kittle did not practice Wednesday due to a knee issue and was a limited participant on Thursday. He played the entire game last week, so this is probably just maintenance. He’s literally carried the Niners’ offense the past two weeks, re-establishing himself as an elite TE.
Darren Waller and Foster Moreau, Las Vegas Raiders
Darren Waller will remain out in Week 15 with an IT band sprain. If the Raiders fall to 6-8 this week, the Raiders might have some tough decisions to make with their all-world tight end. So fantasy managers need to have a backup option ready to go if necessary in Week 16 and beyond.
Backup Foster Moreau has been dealing with an abdomen issue, but Fresno Bee reporter Anthony Galaviz declared on Thursday that Moreau “should be good to go” on Saturday.
