Fantasy Injury Report: David Montgomery, Logan Thomas, Teddy Bridgewater injury updates

With Week 4 of the 2021 NFL season wrapping up, here are some updated injury reports to keep in mind for your Week 5 fantasy football lineups.

The unfortunate reality of the return of the NFL is that when players are allowed to go full speed, injuries are bound to happen. Week 4 of the NFL season was no exception. Now that fantasy football managers are updating their lineups for the coming week, several players have found themselves on the injury report, leaving their status for Week 5 in the air.

Fantasy Football Injury Report: QB update

Here is where we currently stand in terms of the fantasy football QB options dealing with an injury.

    Andy Dalton, Chicago Bears

Head coach Matt Nagy removed some of the suspense when the Bears ruled Andy Dalton (knee) out for Week 4’s matchup against the Detroit Lions. Rookie Justin Fields led the Bears to a 24-14 win while completing 11 of 17 pass attempts for 209 yards with an interception. This will assuredly be a talking point leading up to Week 5, as Nagy has stated Dalton would be the starter when healthy.

    Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, Lamar Jackson (back) was a full participant on Friday and was active for Baltimore’s Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Fantasy managers breathed a sigh of relief.

    Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos

After taking a hard hit to the head while making a pass, Teddy Bridgewater was evaluated for a concussion. Drew Lock replaced Bridgewater at QB against the Ravens. Bridgewater was ruled out and has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

    Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers

After playing the entire first half, Jimmy Garoppolo did not take the field to start the second half due to what the team is calling a calf injury. Rookie QB Trey Lance took over as San Francisco’s starting quarterback.

Fantasy Football Injury Report: RB update

How is the injury bug affecting RB committees heading into Week 5?

    David Montgomery, Chicago Bears

Unfortunately, we could be looking at a serious injury to another franchise running back. After recording a carry in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, David Montgomery was in obvious pain while clutching his left knee. He was able to walk off the field with help from the training staff, but he couldn’t put much weight on that leg. After going to the locker room, Montgomery was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Montgomery will undergo an MRI on Monday. After early testing, he is believed to have suffered a hyperextended knee.

Montgomery has been by far the best player for the Bears on offense and was having another solid performance. Before his injury, Montgomery rushed the ball 23 times for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the year, he has 69 carries for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns and is the RB21 on the season.

Tony Jones Jr., New Orleans Saints

Saints RB Tony Jones Jr. was carted off of the field in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Giants with an ankle injury. Initially, Jones attempted to limp to the sideline before finally going to the ground and being carted off the field. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game after recording 3 carries for 8 yards.

    WR injury update

News for pass catchers is essential in PPR leagues — let’s break down the WR fallout.

    Will Fuller, Miami Dolphins

Will Fuller suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s 27-17 loss to the Colts. Fuller was targeted on a pass in the second quarter when the injury occurred. He walked off the field and left with medical trainers to the locker room shortly thereafter. He was declared out for the remainder of the game. Injuries have marred Fuller’s career — he’s been active for just 55 of 84 career games.

    Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys

Amari Cooper briefly left the Cowboys’ game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury but did return. He played well the remainder of the game but saw limited work, catching all 3 targets for 68 yards and a touchdown. It will be worth monitoring early in the week to see if there are any lingering effects.

Julio Jones and A.J. Brown, Tennessee Titans

Both Julio Jones and A.J. Brown were ruled out for Week 4 with hamstring injuries. The Titans hope both will be back in Week 5 when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    Dyami Brown, Washington Football Team

Dyami Brown came off the field limping Sunday and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a knee injury. Prior to his departure, Brown recorded a reception on 2 targets for 19 yards.

TE injury update for Week 5

Which tight end injuries should we be mindful of when setting our fantasy lineups?

    Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team

After just 5 snaps, Thomas suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. He was initially ruled as questionable to return, but after trainers checked him out on the sideline, he was soon ruled out.
