DFS Strategy: Stack Broncos’ Passing Game
With one of the lowest projected totals of the week, this isn’t the most fruitful game of Week 13 from a fantasy football perspective. However, the Broncos’ passing game offers the best opportunity, so stack Bo Nix and his top two receivers, Courtland Sutton and Devaughn Vele.
Nix has been a strong fantasy option for months now, ranking as the QB4 overall since Week 5. The rookie’s rushing ability has been a huge boon, and now he gets to face a Browns defense which has allowed a league-worst 13.0 yards per scramble.
Cleveland also struggles against wide receivers, allowing the fourth-most PPR points per game to wideouts. Since failing to record a target in Week 7, Sutton has exploded, logging at least six catches and 70 yards in every game. Sutton is the WR3 overall in fantasy since Week 8 and is an elite option for this game.
Vele has emerged as the second option behind Sutton and just had a season-high 80 yards last week vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. The Broncos have rotated their non-Sutton wide receivers most of the year but Vele seems to have worked his way beyond that committee, playing over 60% of the snaps in three straight games.
DFS Strategy: Roster Broncos D/ST and Browns Passing Game Options
The Denver D/ST has been one of the best this season, ranking as the No. 2 scoring unit in fantasy behind the Minnesota Vikings. Jameis Winston offers a very high-upside opportunity for this group to generate some takeaways. Given the lack of steady options throughout this game, the Broncos D/ST looms as one of the safer options to fill out your lineup.
If the favored Broncos lead most of the way, you can also grab a couple members of the Browns’ passing game without counteracting your Denver D/ST choice. David Njoku has the highest target rate (22%) of any Browns pass catcher still on the roster this year and has seen at least five targets in all but one game this year. The absence of Cedric Tillman (concussion) could lead to even more work for Njoku.
Finally, Jerome Ford is a decent cheap flier to fill out your lineup. Ford has played over Nick Chubb in clear passing situations, leading the team in snaps on dropbacks since Chubb debuted in Week 7. The Broncos have had a surprising amount of trouble against receiving backs. Entering Week 13, Denver has allowed the sixth-most receiving yards (502) to running backs this season.
