Looks like the New York Jets are on a quest to find their next head coach, but fans think Mike Vrabel might not be the right fit for the job. After reportedly interviewing with the AFC East franchise, many believe the former Tennessee Titans HC is too sharp to coach a struggling team like the Jets.
Vrabel’s got the smarts and the résumé, so why risk it all for a franchise still searching for its identity (and a reliable QB)?
Fans Question Mike Vrabel’s Fit With the Jets
Vrabel’s name is officially in the 2025 head-coaching carousel, but fans are convinced he won’t land with the Jets. After NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed the Jets interviewed the former Titans HC for their vacant role, social media lit up with fiery reactions.
One fan summed up the sentiment, saying, “It would genuinely be hilarious if one of the best coaches around goes to the Jets and not somewhere far better. He’s too smart to choose this team lol.” Ouch, Jets fans.

Another chimed in: “Why would any coach want to work for the Jets after seeing what they did to Saleh?”

There’s also concern about Vrabel’s potential fit.
“Why would anyone want to work for Woody Johnson? Are the Jets in rebuild or bigger after the Aaron Rodgers debacle?” one fan questioned, highlighting the franchise’s leadership and uncertain direction.

Others flat-out pleaded with Vrabel to steer clear: “Don’t do it, Mike! You have so much to live for!”
It’s clear fans think Vrabel, a proven leader with a 54-45 record, is better suited for a team that’s playoff-ready — not a squad grappling with quarterback uncertainty and locker-room questions.
While Vrabel hasn’t publicly addressed the speculation, his silence only fuels the intrigue.
Vrabel Reflects on Missed Opportunities and Future Prospects
Vrabel’s 2024 “gap year” from coaching didn’t come without its frustrations. He opened up about the head-coaching cycle in an Athletic feature, addressing why he didn’t land a job despite being a highly respected candidate.
The 49-year-old believed he was a strong contender for the Los Angeles Chargers’ opening but felt Jim Harbaugh’s prior connection with the organization sealed the deal there. As for the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers? He never viewed those roles as serious fits and showed little interest in pursuing them.
During interviews, Vrabel noticed recurring questions about his ability to collaborate with ownership and front offices — an issue he adamantly disputed. “I feel like I can work with anybody,” Vrabel said. “Winning is the ultimate goal. I’m not afraid to respectfully disagree, share my convictions, and move forward.”
He also highlighted his love for team-building, from scouting to post-draft collaborations. “The coach-GM relationship has to remain respectful at all times. Disagreements help us grow, but ultimately, someone’s gotta be in charge.”
For now, Vrabel is embracing the reset while waiting for the perfect fit.
