Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to the second Super Bowl in franchise history after a 40-22 win against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles’ star bounced back from an early interception to play a great game and was rewarded with the Super Bowl MVP award.
Hurts winning the award was a surprise, as many believed one of the Eagles’ defensive players should have been crowned the MVP. Philadelphia’s defense limited the Chiefs to just six points in the first three quarters, recorded six sacks, and caused Patrick Mahomes to make poor decisions.

Jalen Hurts Winning Super Bowl MVP Sparks Reaction From Fans
The fans on social media voiced their support for Milton Williams and Josh Sweat for the award instead of Hurts.
Williams finished the game with four total tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one fumble recovery. Sweat had six total tackles, two tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
Cooper DeJean and Zack Baun also had solid performances and could have been considered for the award. They both had one interception each, with the rookie cornerback recording a pick-six to give the Eagles a big edge early in the game.
Here are some of the reactions from fans after Hurts won the Super Bowl MVP:
should have been milton or sweat https://t.co/uMRCUzXCRK

“How was it not Josh Sweat?” questioned one fan.
“The Real MVP = The Defense,” wrote a fan.
Hurts was solid, but Sweat was ALL up in Mahomes' kitchen tonight. Which lead to those INT's… #Injustice #IDP

“One of the best defensive performances ever and a QB gets the MVP. Laughable,” said a fan.
Another fan added, “Josh Sweat or Milton Williams robbed.”
DeJean or Sweat got robbed. Just rename all MVP awards to the QB award because thats all they ever give them too.

The Chiefs’ offense scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, making the final scoreline much more respectable for Kansas City. However, anyone who watched the entire game knows that the Eagles’ defense dominated the Chiefs, and Mahomes had little time to throw the ball.
Hurts also played well and made the most of his defense’s stunning performance. The Eagles had 36:58 minutes of possession as compared to the Chiefs’ 23:02 minutes, and Philadelphia’s quarterback was a big reason behind it.
In a game in which Saquon Barkley rushed for just 57 yards on 25 carries, Hurts stepped up to lead the team from the front against a pretty good Chiefs defense. Although a defensive player winning the MVP award would have been nice, Hurts winning it isn’t completely unfair.
Hurts Played His Best in the Biggest Games
Hurts was criticized throughout the season, sometimes even considered his team’s weak link.
He saved his best performances for the two biggest games of the season, the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl, in which the Eagles’ offense scored a combined total of 95 points.
In these two games, Hurts completed 74.0% of his throws for 467 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, with a passer rating of 114.3. He also made big plays with his legs, rushing for 88 yards and four touchdowns.
He is now among the only two active starting quarterbacks in the NFC who have won the Super Bowl, and this win against the Chiefs will give the Eagles confidence to have continued success.
Hurts proved all his critics wrong and showed everyone why the Eagles signing him to a five-year, $255 million contract extension in 2023 was a great decision.
