NFL fans aren’t taking the 57-year-old Coach Prime at his word -- is he staying at Colorado for yet another season or jetting to the pros?

Deion Sanders, AKA Coach Prime, is again in the spotlight, this time linked to the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching vacancy. Owner Jerry Jones is searching for the next coach to replace Mike McCarthy, and speculation about Sanders landing in Dallas and leaving his role as Colorado’s head coach has ignited reactions from fans.

NFL Fans Not Convinced by Colorado Alum’s Word of Coach Prime Staying

Over the past two months, Coach Prime has insisted that he plans to remain with the Buffaloes after his sons — Shedeur and Shilo Sanders — and Travis Hunter head to the 2025 NFL.

However, fans on social media aren’t taking the 57-year-old Colorado head coach at his word.

Matthew McChesney, a former NFL guard and Colorado alum revealed on his podcast that he interviewed for the Buffaloes’ offensive line coaching job and claimed Coach Prime was staying put. McChesney said, “Coach Prime is who he is… building relationships and ensuring it’s a good fit is his priority.”

“It’s a very good possibility that something awesome happens, but at the same time, I don’t know yet. So you know, we got another meeting tomorrow, we’ll talk tomorrow and try and put some more things on paper and spitball some more ideas.

“One thing I do respect about Coach Prime a ton is he doesn’t let the world set his table, time-wise. So he’ll announce who the offensive line coach is and who his coaching staff is when he feels like it,” McChesney added.

Fans were not having this on X and started a chain of reactions questioning McChesney’s viewpoint of Coach Prime staying. One fan wrote, “He said he was staying at JSU until he didn’t 🤷🏽 All coaches say that for strategic purposes…Aug 2025 will tell the story.”

Another fan said, “If the Cowboys offer him the job he’s gone. Also theirs been some new developments arise today. Deion went to the AD asking for more money for his assistant coaches and recruiting/NIL and he was told no!”

“Idk man… looks like prime is a cowboy tbh,” tweeted one more.

One X user tweeted, “All coaches are staying, until they are not / Go Buffs :)”

“Well of course he was told that. Every coach who’s ever left a school said he’s staying until it’s finalized,” said one more.

One more user commented, “Staying until Jerry offers him the job lol.”

Speculation about Sanders’ future grew after Coach Prime confirmed that Jones had contacted Sanders.

Another NFL insider, Ed Werder, described Jones as being “enamored” with the idea of bringing the former Super Bowl champion back to Dallas. “If Jerry offers, it’s hard to imagine Prime turning it down,” Werder said on the “Dan Patrick Show.”

Sanders has yet to be interviewed formally, but the allure of the Dallas job could prove tempting. As Werder pointed out, “There’s no candidate Jerry can sell to the fan base better than Deion Sanders.”
