Fans Accuse Cowboys VP Stephen Jones of ‘Pocket Watching’ Eagles After Predicting Salary Cap Hell for NFC Rivals

    Published on

Fans did not spare Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones as they accuse him of "pocket watching" their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of a disastrous season. America’s Team suffered a humiliating 41-7 loss against their arch nemesis, the Philadelphia Eagles, last week.

However, Cowboys executive vice president and Jerry Jones’ son Stephen Jones isn’t done taking shots at the Eagles. Fans, on the other hand, are keen to remind Jones of his team’s issues.

NFL Fans Hit Back at Stephen Jones for Looking Into Other Team’s Finances

It’s no secret that finances play a major role in the game, salary cap issues can make or break a season — in some cases, several seasons. With this in mind, Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan and took shots at the way the Eagles are handling their business.

“I know everybody has their different battles with the cap that hit at different times. Philly will have theirs coming up where they’ll have to make tough decisions,” said Jones.

Jones’ comments went viral on X (formerly Twitter) and fans didn’t hesitate to share a piece of their mind with the 60-year-old. “The Jones family does not care about winning. It’s why you hear them constantly obsess over the cap,” responded one fan.

“Stephen Jones is out here pocket watching an Eagles team that has won a Super Bowl, tore it all the way down, and then went back to Super Bowl and could be going back again this year and he got the nerve to comment on their situation, GTFOH!” tweeted a fan.

“Stephen Jones should avoid referencing how other teams handle team building and cap management,” added a fan.

“It’s wild how the Cowboys are simultaneously not aggressive while also struggling with the cap problems they say other teams are going to deal with,” responded a fan.

“Needs to worry about his own house collapsing,” added another fan.

“I’d rather be in salary cap hell than not be in the playoffs,” tweeted another fan.

Jones Mulls Over Injury Issues That Derailed the Cowboys’ Season

During his appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones combined the issues of cap space and injuries to point out that luck did not favor them in the 2024 season. “I’ll say it again, it’s the world’s smallest violin, but unfortunately we have over 50 percent of our cap on (injured reserve),” Jones said.

“Those things, when they hit and hit at the wrong time, it makes for a challenge for a team,” he added. Jones is correct in pointing out the Cowboys’ injury woes that have led them to a 7-9 record and out of the playoffs.

The Cowboys will play their last game of the season at home. They will face off against the playoff-bound Washington Commanders on Sunday, Jan. 1.
