Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has had a successful college career while playing for his father, NFL legend Deion Sanders. Now, he is set to enter the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the top prospects. He is viewed as one of the top two quarterbacks alongside Miami’s Cam Ward and could even become the first pick.
However, a former scout for the New York Jets highlighted some red flags in Sanders on Saturday (Jan. 25).
Ex-Jets Scout Shares the Cons of Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft Projection
Sanders is largely viewed as an excellent quarterback prospect. Nonetheless, this is not viewed as a strong quarterback class, and as a result, there is not a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft that is immune from criticism. However, most NFL scouts agree that Sanders is one of the best options available and should have a good mindset after learning from his dad his whole life.
Sanders committed to participate in the Shrine Bowl several months ago. On Saturday (Jan. 25), insider Matt Miller announced that Sanders would not participate in practices, and instead, would be an interview participant only.
“Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be an interview-only participant at the Shrine Bowl this week. He will not be practicing but will meet with teams.”
This announcement prompted former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly to speak about some concerns he has had about Sanders for several months. He wrote on X:
“Shedeur Sanders red flags. This is the information teams need to dig into during the interview process — Sanders presents himself as a passive aggressive hot head when provoked. He also has shown a lack of leadership and a lack of sportsmanship on his time line that should concern teams.”

While Kelly has issues with how Sanders has conducted himself on the field throughout his college career, that is not an opinion that is shared by most NFL scouts. Instead, Sanders has mostly been praised by scouts for his mindset and work ethic.
However, many of those scouts agree that it is unclear he will perform in the NFL without his father coaching him. Prime Time has coached him throughout his college career, and presumably, played a big role in his pre-college development. He will (most likely) not be coaching him at the NFL level, so Shedeur will need to adapt to a new environment.
