The Dallas Cowboys are used to having successful seasons under head coach Mike McCarthy. In the first four years of his tenure, McCarthy and his team made it to the playoffs three times, with the 2020 COVID-19 season being the only exception.
However, the Cowboys have had a tough year in 2024. With an overall record of 5-7 and McCarthy’s contract reaching its end, it doesn’t seem like their partnership will continue after the season.
Despite Dak Prescott’s comments on how McCarthy deserves to continue as the team’s head coach, ex-Eagles LB Emmanuel Acho doesn’t believe the Cowboys’ coach should get a new contract.
Emmanuel Acho Clarifies Stance on Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys Future
During a recent clip uploaded on “The Facility FS1” account, former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho boldly disagreed with the rest of the panel and shared that he doesn’t think McCarthy deserves another shot at coaching the Cowboys.
Acho said that while McCarthy is a good coach, he doesn’t have what it takes to win a Super Bowl title anymore. He emphasized that even though McCarthy is an accomplished head coach, there are many overachievers in the field who are simply a better fit for the job.
“I don’t think McCarthy has earned another chance. It’s not to say McCarthy is a bad head coach. McCarthy is a good head coach,” Acho said. “Good does not win the Super Bowl anymore. It’s not to say McCarthy is an underachieving head coach. He’s not; he’s an achieving head coach, but in a world of overachieving, even achieving looks like underachieving. And that’s what Mike McCarthy looks like.”

“16 NFL head coaches, 16 of them, viewers at home, have won as many or more playoff games than Mike McCarthy has since Mike McCarthy has been in Dallas.”
Acho also compared McCarthy’s tenure with Nick Sirianni and what he’s done with the Philadelphia Eagles. He said, “Going to a Super Bowl and continually winning 10 plus games, starting 10-1, multiple years, 10-2, multiple years. I think that’s more impressive than what Mike McCarthy has done in his tenure in Dallas.”
While McCarthy is on the hot seat, many names are already being floated as the next potential Cowboys head coach, including Deion Sanders, Kliff Kingsbury, and more.
